GY was going to pro rate me a set of replacements a few months ago. I still have the paperwork somewhere. Seems like it was going to be around $1000.00 for all four plus alignment

I am just going to finish wearing mine out and replace them with something else

yeah that doesnt even sound worth it! sounds like more of a marketing ploy to purchase more goodyears. if they crack again and only last less than 10k miles, you really are better off buying something else when they wear out. thats probably the same deal i will get.

The last time I heard the life expectancy of a tire is now 6 or 7 years. This came about as the result of a court decision on an auto accident with Fatalities. This 6 or 7 years life thing has really cut into what a tire store can or cannot do with used tires. It would be interesting to hear more about cracking of tires covered for only 3 years. Afterall, a defective tire is a defective tire if it comes about during the 6 or 7 year time frame.

I sense a great opportunity here. I pretty much agree that any tire compensation has little to no value, therefore you're just throwing away the remainder of the tire life.

New is 10/32 and you have 5/32 now. With 2/32 being considered dead, then you have 3/32 left to use. You got 6900 miles from the first 5/32, so 4100 miles are still left.

Here's the plan.

Monday morning inform your boss you need an emergency vacation week starting next Saturday.

Pack what you and your sig other need for a week and hit the road. Run down to the FL Keys for a couple days and return through BG and stop at the museum/factory. Nice trip with lots of extras on the way and warm weather too. Lots of forum members on the route if problems arise.

Put on new tires after you return. You can justify the trip by using up the last $600 worth of rubber, instead of throwing it in the trash.

Don't forget to thank your boss profusely when you return to work, but not with a Key West souvenir.

I thought those tires only had 8/32 tread when new?

OP car has supercar tires, like mine.
09 w/Z51
I was thinking the fronts only had 8/32 when new. I think the base suspension tires are the one linked above.
BTW, I am on my 4th Stella Artois in about an hour so I may have it wrong.

We used up 2 1/2 sets of Z51 Supercar tires on our Corvettes. They are not as bad as some people claim, but I sure wouldn't pay more than $500 out the door for another set. Any more money than that, I'd go for the michelins (PS2 runflats or A/S runflats, depending on use) or Firestones.

I'd bet that when all is said and done it will be less expensive to get a set of Firestones and you will end up happier with a better set of tires. You're looking at probably less than $1,300 mounted and balanced to replace all 4 ordered from TireRack. I have found my Firestones still giving better traction after more than 20K than the SC tires did when new. And they still have lots of tread where the SC tires would have been gone long before 20K.

+1 on that. When GY had to replace my OE r/f's under warranty last month that was my first choice. Since the tires had little wear, I couldn't justify the cost of switching vs $500 replacement cost under warranty. When the G Y's do wear out, I will go to the Firestone's.

GoodYears are absolute garbage. GM should be ashamed to put them on the Vette. Hopefully, and probably, they will be gone with the C7.

I have worked at a used Corvette dealership for the last 30 years and I can tell you that Goodyears are junk.

Going back to the 1979-1982 Eagle GT's they cracked on the sidewalls and the tread. Next came the Gatorbacks on the 1984 to 1991 cars samething cracks. Next the GSC's on the 1992-1996 cars samething cracks. The C5's had Eagle F1's and again cracks. I can tell you we have spent over 100K dollars over the years replacing Goodyear tires they are pure overpriced junk!!!!!

When I was at this years Corvettes@Carlisle I asked Harlen Charles from the Corvette Team about why they keep using these junk Goodyears. His lame excuse was when we are bringing out the new generation of Corvette we invite all the tire companies to bring their products and we have a shoot out and Goodyear has won it so we use them. My response was maybe you should asked the loyal repeat owners who keep buying new Corvettes what they think about your tire selection.

What gets me is they say they are always trying to improve the car. They drive these cars thousands of miles and have to know the tires are lousy? How can't you hear all of the tire noise when driving.
