Where to go fast?
Does anyone know of a sanctioned location where you can legally run for top end on your Vette? Please no suggestions of isolated highways or the Autobahn. Thanks.

Running at Talladega and Daytona, a Stock Z06 will see 162-165 on stock tires.

Burning Brakes
Too many curves and dips
But I did manage 145 on the straight away at LVMS...also they have the silver state classic here, only place I know that you can legally exceed the speed limit on a state road, I believe beginners are limited to 95-150mph, unlimited class 160-190.

The Big Bend Open Road race has categories from 85mph to 140 mph average speed for 118 miles, plus an unlimited speed category. This years event (registration is full) is in two weeks (28 Apr). Looks to be a blast! For a stock car (OEM seat belts, Fire extinguisher and no other mods) the upper Tech Speed is 124 mph. I'll post a report when I get back.

Joe is talking top speed.
The Talladega event is "Vettes for Vets" and is a lead-follow format around the tri-oval of the speedway. Coming out of NASCAR Turn 2, you can open up a gap behind the car you're following and then let 'er rip down the back straight.
At Daytona there are several HPDE's in the fall, and they run the Rolex 24 road course.
So....neither place lets you get to top speed.

Standing mile events are a blast.
You won't hit top speed, but you'll print some high numbers. I highly recommend it.

You might want to try El Mirage first. It's closer and they run more often.
