Default Technical/Wheels Questions

I replaced my Cray Scorpions 18/19 setup with runflats with

Cray Brickyard 19/20 setup with non runflats

1) Now my Traction Control Active indicator continues to pop up where my odometer reading is

Ive always had my traction control on and have never seen this

2) Now I can feel the rear end feeling like it wants to get away from me

Is there something that I need to reset that I don't know about?

any help would be greatly appreciated

what is the new tire make and model, and what size in front and rear?

I suspect you strayed too far from the original O/D sizing and your ratios are off and your handling/engine drag systems may not be happy.

what width are your wheels? your tire sizes are causing the issue, at least for TCS message.

Width of the tire, and wheel diameter don't matter but overall *tire diameter* (and its ratio F/R) is key for TCS/ABS-- you need to maintain about a 1" taller rear tire diameter than front diameter. If you don't, you'll get exactly the symptoms you describe.

I don't have my tire calculator handy, but from the sound of the sizes quoted, it sounds like the front/rear tire diameters are too close, and do not maintain the +1" rear diameter bias required.

You might also check to make sure that one of the speed sensors on the wheel hubs was not accidentally disconnected during the tire/wheel changeover. (Less likely, but that's the next thing I'd check if the tire sizes are ok)

Yeah, those are almost exactly the same height (25.75"F, 25.81" R).

You need to go up to a larger diameter rear tire (295/30-20?).
*Or* a smaller front (245/30-19)

Either way would give you the +1" rear figure you need. I'd recommend increasing the rear diameter, as that would keep you close to the OEM diameters.

looked at my paperwork and the sizes above you said are the exact sizes that I ordered, they put the WRONG SIZE rears on ( at least not the size I ordered 295/30ZR20)

Now I just got them yesterday and drove it straight home and parked it. They are a pretty reputable company here in Atlanta (I wont say their name YET) so hopefully they will make this right.

I asked what width your wheels were earlier so I could suggest a good combo of tire sizes

I run 255/35/19 and 305/30/20 and it keeps everything happy. this is on 19x9 and 20x11 wheels.

oh cool - sounds like it was just a mistake from the shop, they will fix ya up I imagine!

I think Kent1999 above may have found my problem, see his above reply, but thank you very much for responding.

Kent1999 you were exactly on the money on this one

Called em Monday morning, told em about the tire issue, and as I said they have an outstanding reputation here in Atlanta. There were no questions, no blame shifting just Sorry we screwed up, bring your car back and we will fix it immediately. Picked it up and although I just got the tires Saturday and the rears were the only issue, They put 4 brand new upgraded tires on it. So thank you Butler Tires, way to take care of your customers. Not to mention the Cray Brickyards look awesome to me. No pics yet. Came matte black and had empainted Shiny Gloss Black

Great that your tire company did the right thing, and nice move on your part not trashing them while figuring out what went wrong and getting it fixed. I would like to see the wheels and tires on your car if you can post a photo.

Great info for when I use my TSW Nurburgrings! Suggest moderators make this a sticky or post in FAQ. Useful.

Related question:
I had a message come up in the DIC the other day that said something like "CALIBRATING TRACTION CONTROL". I don't recall the exact words.
I checked my tire pressure and only one of my rear tires was about two or three psi low.
Has anyone else seen this message? It seems that the system can compensate for a small difference in rolling diameter of the tires from side to side, but not front to rear.

Thanks for posting the photos. The wheels and tires look great on your Vette.
Hawaii? Are Corvettes allowed in Hawaii?

Just kidding. If single, I can't imagine what it would be like driving an attention getter like that around on an island filled with tourists. All the stopping to let them look at the car would detract from the driving. Oops, I think that I have wandered off topic.
