Somebody Keyed My Car - Where to Park?
Washing my 2009 Z51, Crystal Red metallic Vette today, I noticed that someone had keyed the right rear fender. A 3 inch scratch deep into the fender, then a 3 foot long lighter scratch into the clearcoat. I hope that &^*&**^ low life rots in hell. I believe in karma and it is a bitch.
Now that I've got that off my chest...I always park as far away from other cars as possible but am thinking maybe I should park closer and risk the parking lot dings. What do you think?
This car is my daily driver and didn't have a single blemish up til now.
Also, I assume the lighter scratches in the clearcoat will polish out. The deep one may require some repair and repaint.

The paint can still be scratched from errant door edges though.
I park away from other cars, but try to keep it some place visible. But as RLSebring said, it could happen anywhere.
Sorry about the scratches. People who do s$#t like that should be caned and then imprisoned. And then forced to hard labor to pay for the stuff they've damaged.

As soon as I saw the title, I said to myself "I bet he was parked out in the middle of nowhere". When you park you nice car away from all the other cars, your car sticks out like a sore thumb attracting the exact kind of attention you are trying to avoid.

That sux..Idiots!
I seldom park where the car draws attn to itself. Usuall I try to park next to a planter or some object so there's only another vehicle on one side. Also, I usually push my mirrors in if it's tight parking.
With all the performance mods I have installed, I worry more about the car getting stolen and never recouping the cost rather than scratches. Even though living in a very low crime area helps, and the fact that these cars are quite difficult to steal without a flatbed, I usually drive the Volvo for trips to the store etc when the car is out of sight for extended periods.

I think it is much, much easier to casually key a car as you walk inbetween cars. When you park in an exposed area, any attempt to vandalize the car will be out in the open, not hidden among other parked cars.
Besides, a C6 stands out no matter where you park it!
Since these vandals are basically cowards, they won't try to vandalize a car that is out in the open, which makes their actions very visible.

If somebody wanted to key a car or break in, they will do it no matter where it was parked. I've had a few cars in the past get broken into and know people that have had cars broken into over the years and a criminal is going to do that regardless unfortunately. Sorry to hear that happened, scares me as well once I get my car back. But I usually try to park away from cars but still pretty close and near a curb. That way its not too noticeable. But again if someone wants to do something stupid they will either way, its pretty sad, but I believe in Karma as well.

It is still more safe to park away and never, ever use two spaces...
Sorry for your bad luck. I have a 3" spot on my wifes Red Jewel tintcoat Malibu that is down to the primer for the same reason. I was able to get the other 7 feet of scratches out.

I found one in my MR Vert about two months ago. It's on the driver side front wheel well and about two inches long. Not sure if it was a key but it doesn't look like a door ding.
It shows on those dark red Vettes. I'm with you pmt 67

Safety in numbers?
I tend to park far enough out that the average person wouldn’t park there unless they care about their car, but not so far out that you stand out. I guess some other Corvette owners liked my location because today when I came out of the gym there was silver C5 parked next to me. On the way home I stopped at the grocery store and when I came out there was a red C6 parked behind me.
