Corvette ZR1 Does Practice Laps at Indianapolis May 10
When we heard that the Corvette ZR1 would be the pace car for the 96th Indy 500, we knew the most powerful car ever to fulfill this role deserves some extra coverage. So here it is, the performance machine of the Chevrolet brand doing its practice laps in front of the camera.

...probably referring to the fact that the C6 has a lot of styling cues from the C5, released in the '97 model year and therefore designed in the mid nineties. (not that you don't know that bit of history, just pointing it out) Obviously it isn't a mirror image, but you can't argue that the cues aren't there.

And how about this one...
Also, I like the ZR1 pace car but I think the ZR1 signature blue calipers would have been a nicer accent rather than silver.
There really isn’t much in America that can match the 638 horsepower ZR1 and its fiberglass racing body on the track.

I have no desire for a new ZR1 pace car...
I still think this was one of the coolest Corvette pacers. Bad *** in it's day too, but a dog by today's standards.
I actually bought one brand new (in '92 with 24 miles and untitled MSO) with an L82, 4spd and gymkhana suspension...

I think that just for the record (and for fun), they should have the previous year's winner of the 500 do a lap in that year's Pace Car just as fast as they possibly can. Give 'em 5 laps and take the best time.

I guess by that standard my C6 is a relic from the 50's because it's got the same style black rubber tires!!!!
Geez, some people really have trouble giving props to the Corvette without some kind of caveat (if I hear another best car for the money comment I swear....).

I hope they let the ZR1 pace car run faster around the track then they let me in my C5. I think, on one stretch, I hit 30 MPH.

I love IndyCar, so don't take my comment the wrong way; but given the new IndyCar body design and the slower top speeds, it's just possible that the ZR1 will be the fastest car on the track come race day!

Nope; in my C5. But earlier that morning they were running bicycles on the track to see who be eligible to run in an upcoming race. Lance Armstrong was one of the riders. They ran around the track faster then they let our 24 Corvettes run the track. But even though I was driving slow enough to count all the seats in the stands, it was nice to have driven around the Speedway.
It was more fun to drive around Talladega at 162 MPH, though.

He must have been on some pretty good drugs back in the '90's. What he meant was "with classic styling cues evoking previous generations...". There's common styling DNA in all the C2 through C6 generations. Some of these "writers" can't write worth beans

The speed leading up to the start was definitely over 90 in 1978, even though it looked a lot slower. I imagine they go faster now on the pace laps.
