same thing i said after i got my new vacuum cleaner!
thanks Scott... yeah i ordered the Corsa X-Pipe yesterday from WCC so we shall see if i get that volume upgrade (fingers crossed)
its not that per say... i actually witnessed both the sport and extreme in action and decided to go with the extreme because of its volume output. the setback in my endeavor is that i was unaware the 2012+ C6s have those 2ndary set of CATs on the stock x-pipe which i hope is what is causing the extreme system to be so much more muffled!!! even quieter than the stock NPP!!!
i can only speak for my case (you may want to call your local dealer and verify as well)... but i spoke to dealership while i was in search of the 2011 x-pipe part # and just happen to ask if i were to replace the stock x-pipe on my 2012 with the 2011 x-pipe would this have any affect on my warranty and he said NO... anything CAT BACKWARDs is fine!
haha i felt like i was on Wheel of Fortune when i first saw the CATd stock x-pipe.... VANNA can i get a YYYYYYYY!!!!!
so Mark in your discoveries that the flanges are diff for the Z x-pipes what is gonna be your next plan of action on your exhaust? ...btw what exhaust are you upgrading to?

i totally get where you are coming from and thanks for the advice... NOTED!
i see... so on your 2012 Z you just upgraded from the primary CATs backwards or did you replace ALL CATS? with earlier year zr1 x-pipe and zr1 mufflers to achieve that sound upgrade you were looking for?
could you paste the link to the aforementioned thread...

It's all good. Just don't want to see a fellow Vette owner get screwed!

heres the link: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-z...-the-cats.html
i had a hell of a time removing the first set of cats, simply because i didn't have the right tools. the manifolds are stock, the primary cats now are off a zr1 with about 100 miles, and the x-pipe is also from a zr1. i got the sound i was looking for. the 2nd set of cats in the 2012 x-pipe muffled the sound a little, but the 2012's are still more aggressive sounding than a stock 06-10 z06. simply because the 11+ have the zr1 mufflers.

I think gm added the extras just to conform to the constantly changing bs of emissions laws. Exhaust restriction will absolutely lower the power at the wheels- especially when you consider how the previous exhaust had a lot of room for improvement...
GM doesnt have to advertise what the change is because the ls3 is still rated at 430hp when its put on an engine stand in a dyno room, and the losses after the exhausts are probably deemed minimal (ie 5-10hp)

So the VERDICT is in... i noticed a SLIGHT increase in volume but most of the BIGGEST VOLUME GAIN comes in when i am at my HIGH RPMs!!!
Satisfied for the time being but later down the road i will probably implement HEADERs!!!
p.s.
i will put out a new thread in the forum containing a little video i put together (not the best video quality (iPhone) to gauge the sound differences BUT you get the picture...) to document the transformation process and once uploaded i will post pics in the OP of this thread to show what the pipes look like on 2012+ non-Zs vs 2012+ Zs.

more midrange with the corsa x... i clicked on the link and it says 09-13. looks like the GS doesn't have the same funky reversed donut gasket like the Z0 and ZR.

Stock LS3 X-pipe Interchange
Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I've been searching for a definitive answer and haven't found it.
This question is only concerning the LS3, not the Z's. 2012 and 2013 LS3's have 2 extra cats in the x-pipe. 2011 and earlier do NOT. The left and right cat pipes do change part numbers as indicated in the table below. Is a stock x-pipe from 09-11 a direct bolt in swap for a 2012?

If you want VOLUME go with a B+B exhaust which is basically mufflerless....I found in my last Vette that adding HEADERS to the NPP exhaust changes everything where sound is concerned.I am one of the few, maybe only one, that thinks NPP is not worth 1200 bucks and it sounds like crap on it's own with open baffles. However, when I heard the 08 I bought with headers on it it sounded spectacular when the baffles opened!Much better then my stock 2013 GS.CORSA X-TREME I think is their loud exhaust, btw.Anything else from them is nice but not "loud" per se.

Are they cats or resonators? No O2 bungs after, so did you look down the pipe for honeycomb? What would be the reason for additional cats down stream of the primary if they don't have any O2 info for the computer? seems like additionl unnecessary weight which they avoid like the plague. My Corsa touring system puts resonators in that exact spot.

So you're saying the 2012 and 2013 have 2 cats and the x pipe has 2 resonators. I haven't pulled mine yet to look down the pipes. Can you back this up with pictures or another source showing the ones in the x pipes to be resonators?

Dude, I own a '12 and have been under it enough times changing the oil. The actual cats bolt between the x-pipe and the exhaust manifolds and have the o2 bungs welded to them. As with the Corsa X pipe used for their touring system, the factory x pipe has two resonator cans at the head end of the system. That's why there are no o2 bungs for them. GM installed that set up because so many were bitching about the horrible deceleration pop and gurgle the LS3 was making at high rpm's.

(Lol wonder what everyone on my email list thought of my response. That's what I get for trying to respond from my cell phone.) Are you referring to the ones that are inline between the exhaust manifold and the x-pipe ?

So I think we're all in agreement that there are 2 cats in the x pipe that are after the O2 sensors. But, I still don't have an answer to my original question.
Is an x pipe from a 2009-2011 LS3 a direct bolt in swap for the catted x pipe on the 2012-2013 LS3?
