At what age did you buy your first Corvette (MERGED)

Wow, this thread is the most interesting and fun than any I have ever started. In fifteen days around 4,700 members have viewed the thread and 327 of you have replied most of you doing so via emails through me which I look forward to recieving.
If you have not seen a little thread I started last week and if you subscribe to or buy on the news stand HotRod Magazine please look the thread up. I read fourteen car mags. per month and read each one cover to cover including the ads and by far HotRod is the most interesting to read and covers Corvettes to street rods. They have access to the newest cars out to do road test and the format in general is the easiest and least boring to read. No I don't have any conections to the magazine in anyway but my Brother says I started reading it when I was around ten and my Wife says that I have pretty much subscribed to it since we were first married.
After saying all of that and to take the mystery out of why the thread I wil just tell you that last Sat. when this months issue arrived I just thumbed through it because this months is a major revamp with more departments, better photography etc. I had just started reading another magazine so I just wanted to see what was ahead.
When I got to an article near the center some letters that I am very familar with caught my eye, they were rrell, ring a bell with anyone. On the top left corner where the article starts and on the opposite page where the last two columns end( pages 104 and 105 ) I get honorable mention and I want you to know it has nothing to do with my having been sick so long or being parcial to the publication. It started as a result of me being a chronic insomniac and being parked at a gate to get into a race track at 4:45 amthat didn't open until 6:00 am!
I will admit I am proud of the small recognition and family and friends are making a big deal out of it. So anyway even if you have too stand at a news rack and take a couple of minutes to read the short article do so and thanks again for all of your contacts to this thread.

18 ...Just out of high school. Saw this '61 parked at a dealer with no plates. They had just taken it in on a trade that morning so I negotiated a price of $2,000 - as is. That was in 1964.

You beat me by 2 years Globeman - I was 18 in 1966 when I bought my first - a '63 Split Window coupe for $2,495...
I banged up my knee playing football and the doctors told me the draft wouldn't take me.
So being the genius that I was, I took what little money I had saved up for college and bought that first Vette.
After all, you only went to college to dodge the draft, right???
A year later, when I did get drafted , the Vette had to go and was sold for 1,800.
I was able to get back into a Vette in '75 ('70 convertible) and have had at least one ever since.
That's me and the '63 in the picture to the left - geo

Sounds like some good deals on some nice cars available right now, I can't see the last few post and if I don't make notes of names when I am replying back I can't remember whose whobut you member of the brotherhood I had you beat, my second Corvette was a 63 split window coupe with fuel injection and less than 15,000 mile. I had $1,100.00 in it.

When I was 31, I bought a fully loaded 2001 MY Z51 coupe from Kerbeck in 2004. It had just over 23K miles on when I bought it. When I sold it back in December, it had 39K miles. It was a great car!

20. I was in college when the 1984 came out. I think I paid around $32,000 cash and drove it past 100,000 miles. I still have a nice scar on my chin from the faceplant when I hit a light pole.
Funny story- I called the insurance agency and they said the car was so new they didn't have rates for me yet so just come down and pay $1000 to get insurance. I paid it and drove off. She later said it would be $1000 PER MONTH for insurance so I just said go with liability.
I crashed the car that next weekend and it was like $8000 in damage. The lady called a month later and read me the riot act and said if I wasn't there by 12 noon with $1000 they were going to cancel my full coverage insurance. I jumped on my motorcycle and promptly brought her $1000 in cash.

Wow. those last 8-10 post are a mixture of young Vette owners still dripping milk on the upolstry and a bunch of more mature guys like myself that take longer getting in and out of their cars so as not to wear out the leather roll on the seat edge!
Did I tell you that I am mentioned twice in this months HotRod Magazine. I don't want to have to go back and read seven pages to find out and I honestly don't know.

*teenVette, is Bonair, Ga. close to downtown Tallapoosa, Ga.?
