Just curious..... is the installation process the same if you are replacing the column lock modual along with adding the eliminator?

Column is not locking but getting the column lock screen and it is taking several cycles to get the ignition to crank.
From what I have read, I need to replace the SCLM.

MrDoll05C6 , easy enough to power up the steerling column lock wire unlock kit to get it into the unlocked position, so you can leave the assembly in the car in the unlocked postion. To get to the steering column lock in the steering column, it take a lot of work isntead.
Jon05vette , test the eliminator to make sure it working correctly to begin with. As for replacing the steering column lock module, can be a mixed blessings since some need to be firmware flashed to the car when replaced. This is the reason that just repairing the module is more ideal, since it's already programmed for the car, and don't get hit with the $180 charge for GM to flash it once installed by yourself and the car towed to them so they can flash it to start the car to begin with.
Or if you do have a Tech II/MDI unit, and working TIS2000, then you can flash the module yourself if needed on the replacement.

He thinks my issue may be the battery cable assembly itself since we found the connection to the starter last weeK loose. He recommended starting by replacing that assembly first. The heat build up/ current draw with a loose connection may have toasted that cable assembly creating a higher resistance and additional voltage drop. P/N for that assembly in my coupe is 15832682.
He also noted that if i decided to replace the OEM SCLM itself with the new one i have.... it is plug n play. No firmware flashing is required for that module. You can replace the OEM SCLM without any ossue with the ACC switch OFF.
After reassembling everything and starting a few times to make sure the SCLMand the bypass module is working properly, he stated that i might want to cycle disconnecting the battery to clear any body module codes that might have been stored.
Thanks

Hence with enough start ups and the codes not re-happening each start up, the stored DTC's will erase themselves after a give amount of cycles, but just discounting the battery will not delete the "Stored"codes in the car isntead. To quickly erase any stored codes, you have to go in with a Tech II to delete them isntead.

It has been almost a week now.... looks like replacing the bad OEM SCLM has solved the problem.
I have also used Koper Top on the battery and ground points I’ve been able to get to readily in the engine compartment. Will disassemble and coat the under body ground contacts next time i lift the car.
Hope this helps others in solving this plaguing problem on a manual ‘05.
Car starts like a champ first time now with no message on the DIC.

I did the SCLM also about 2 years ago and had no problems until now, I read all the posts on what others did to fix this problem but none worked for me.
I bought a brand new SCLM about 4 months ago replaced the old and still get the service steering column lock message. The column is unlocked and the car runs fine but I constantly get that annoying sscl message. I have an appointment with the dealership this morn to see if they can fix this issue although Im certain they wont have a clue but its worth a try.

No codes, just returned from the dealership, and as I feared they were clueless yet still charged me $65 to tell me they don't know.

Very good news I learned today from a post by the corvette mechanic.
GM issued a TSB on November 14 2018 that removes the pin and reflashed the BCM to ignore the SCLM.
Have the GM dealership look up TSB 18-NA-346
VEHICLE WILL MOT START AND/OR SERVICE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK SYSTEM DISPLAY MESSAGE ON DIC
the parts for this modification arw around $20 and the Corvette Mechanic noted that it should take about 2 hours of labor.
I ordered the parts today and will be scheduling an install date with my local Chevy dealer.
Its about time the GM engineers came up with this fix. Better late than never I guess.
Pass s the word.... hope this helps our fellow 2005 manual transmission owners.

Anyone taken a GM up on this TSB fix? If so, have the results been satisfactory? And what was your out of pocket cost?
#255
I would have thought that by now (15 years later) that all the cars that were affected by this would have been dealt with by now?
Shows how much I know.

Yep, full Monty is for the dealer to pull the locking ring on the steering column to replace it with a ring that the steering column lock shaft will not engage if the locking rod ends back out, then to re-flash the BCM to pull the SCLM out of its programming all together.
