stereotypes regarding Vette ownership?
#43
I believe stereotypes are generalizations rooted in some element of truth.
I mean somewhere, at some point in time, someone made general observations about things that others agreed with.
Back in the day, someone observed that a lot of Crown Royal-drinkin' middle-aged men with open shirts and gold chains drove Vettes. And others replied that they, too, had noticed this.
Now, can someone fix me a 7 and 7?

The other night I took the long way home through a nice area of town. I see a group of people protesting the closure of one of the local schools coming the other way escorted by the local PD. One lady yells out "Save our schools, rich man". This was the first for me.

There is an entire group of people who wont even consider a Corvette. Its their view that only "rednecks" drive Vettes.
They cant imagine that someone would buy a Vette over a BMW, Mercedes or Porsche.

I act like I didn't hear them. That seems to **** them off a lot. Personally I really don't care what people think. I was about to get some gold chains and an open shirt to play with the old stereotype.
But I have heard mostly great comments with my 11 GS Torch Red Vert especially when I have the top down. I don't know what it is about red but it sure fires up people's emotions, so far all in a good way. So far I've had models want their pictures taken in/next to my car at two different car shows. My worst case so far has been the usual idiot in various cars coming up next to me and showing me how powerful his engine is. One idiot I'm sure got a nice big ticket after he took off and accelerated to about 100 or so right in front of Utah's "finest".

[QUOTE=trebor8008;1581272003]One night on the way home from work I had a group of early 20 to late teens (about 12 of them) block the city street as they slowly walked across nowhere near an intersection. As I went by one of them started yelling and waving his hands in the air.... QUOTE]
I was at the Hyde Park Corvette gathering up in the mountains outside Santa Fe last Sunday. A 60+ age couple came hiking through the park and the guy starting yelling that we were all A$$holes and flipping everyone off. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t Corvettes he didn’t like, it was more that he didn’t like any upscale cars gathering in *his* forest. So it’s not just “kids” who can be obnoxious.

I think a lot of this has to do with where you live. I live in Miami where everyone loves to be flashy and apparently many have a lot of money to do so. I regularly see ferarris, lambos, and other similarly priced cars. And by regularly, I mean at least 3 or 4 exotic car sightings per day. So no one pays much attention to my vette besides the occasional compliment.

I think "lying, thieving, scrounging alley rats" describe us guys who have been trying to keep the older 'Vettes viable, drivable, and visible on the roads.... Well, maybe not ALL of us....but it helps.

I could not give a s__t what people think but from my experience its pretty much been positive and complimentary. A few mustangs have pulled up, revved their engines and took off but who cares?
