My new 60th 427 Vert Delivery
First, a couple shots of the new car:
Now for the story....I took R8C Delivery on 7-19-12 and had a great time. Larry, my delivery associate did a great job. My 5 year old grandson, while a handful, had a great time, too.
I spent the next 2-1/2 days at the Corvette Homecoming and met some good people, saw some fine cars, and spent too much money.
It rained hard each night in Bowling Green (the car didn't melt) but was sunny and warm (ok-hot) during the day.
The first morning while cleaning the car I found one 3" strip of gasket loose in the trunk. It was cut about 1/2" too short and didn't meet at the corner. I had stopped at the Museum to hit the store and mentioned this to the lady in the Cafe. She told the Cafe Manager who called her husband. He works at the factory. In no time, she bought my wife and me a cup of coffee and said Damian Zink (a quality engineer at the plant) would be there in 10 minutes. It was Friday, his day off.
Damian showed up and took my car to the plant and replaced the gasket (that's a pic of Damian and me with my car). He wouldn't take anything for the help (even on his day off) and even apologized for the inconvenience. Friends, this is great customer service and teamwork beyond my expectations. The whole Corvette Team in Bowling Green really cares about the cars and people they build them for.
On Sunday, about 17 cars with the Grand Sport Registry met for breakfast and cruised South to Fontana Dam, NC. Monday, we all got up and ran the Tail of the Dragon a couple of times. What a Road! The car was broken in right.
I had to leave early on Monday driving home to lower Alabama. I even got up to 26 mpg on one tank (not the one on the TOD...).
The car drives fabulous. The LS7 has plenty of torque and the car was great in the twisties.
Good people, great fun, and a wonderful car. Needless to say, the perma-grin is still there.
