Default Cracked Key Fob??

OK, 5 months old from delivery date and 900 miles, and I look at one of my key fobs yesterday and it has a long crack in it. So I contact my selling dealer service manager and he says, sorry cracks are not covered, huh? So I contact Chevrolet customer service and they say, sorry not covered unless it is determined that it is defective. Anybody have any expereince with a cracked key fob case and dealer replacement?

no, but I tend to agree that it's hard to just suddenly crack all by itself. I just an hour ago worked both of mine open trying first a butter knife, then a dime and finally a very sharp spackle knife. it's easy to mess up the edges but crack it? I'd say you'd have to sit on it with a tire or hit it with a hammer. not to say it can't happen, but it's pretty tough.

I agree, the key fob goes from a drawer to my pocket and then back to the drawer where it is kept, that is it.

Put a dead battery in the fob and bring it back to the dealer and tell them it is broken and you were told it is a non serviceable FOB. They will then order you a new one. I got 2 new ones under warranty and I know many others have as well.

sorry,Do not use the word "broken" tell them "it does not work" if they ask about the crack then tell them you replaced the battery and cracked it.

My local dealer replaced both of my FOBs in warranty because they were cracked. That was in 2010.

I think this is a case where you call your salesman. Explain (nicely and sadly) what is wrong and what service said.

Me thinks salesman will not be pleased and resolution will happen.
I know that sales and service are not the same department but sales does let service know in NO uncertain terms when they are being a 'butt head'.

I let my salesman know when service dept were rude and refused.

Mine cracked within a week of buying my car. The dealer (Criswell) replaced it no questions asked. I then bought a little rubber sleeve from them to cover both of the FOBs so that I didn't damage them. I leave my keys hanging from the side of my purse, so they take quite a bit of banging around. Like I said, only took me a week to crack the first one, but since putting the little rubber sleeve on it, no problem. BTW - if you take yours in to be replaced, make sure to take both FOBs with you, they have to actually reprogram both units at the same time.

You can Google "Fob jacket", I use one and like it.
Recently the little catch that keeps my emergency key from falling out, broke. The fob jacket keeps everything nicely in place.

Cheap, too.

I know what you mean. Both of my fobs look like this. Can't do anything about it.
Except order a new one.

That is exactly where mine cracked...I spoke to the sales manager and he said he could only do what Service what authorize. What it comes down to is GM won't warranty it and the Sales side won't shell out the $75 or $100 it would probably cost them to replace it...pretty shabby good will or customer service.

my wife's FOB cracked bad and a chunk even fell out. Still works fine, but we were by the dealer today anyway and we asked and they said it would cost us $170 for the FOB and another $105 for the programming of both FOBs...
We chose not to.
I don't suppose there is a 3rd party replacement plastic housing we could just swap, is there?

the rubber key fob covers work and you can buy different colors for fob 1 & 2.

Yep, fob #1 is cracked. The case that is. I use to carry both my Yukon fob and the Vette fob at the same time. That is most likely what caused this happen.

I do not think you can buy just the fob case either. I created a thread awhile back. Nothing significant came from that thread in terms of finding the fob case to buy/replace. Most who post in that thread said to pick up one on that auction site.
