Yeah, we've gotten all kinds of RFQ's lately for stuff like that where the original supplier is out of business and the tier 1 is stuck still being responsible for supplying those parts. Usually that means you can charge whatever you want at least. But it's a major PITA to deal with for so few parts so even then sometimes it isn't worth it

But yeah, I've derailed this thread enough

Has anyone had this problem (could not find anything for the C6 by searching), and were you able to fix it?

I have the same issue. I have had substantial contact with one of the on forum GM reps. They offered to contribute to a new dash replacement, however they were never specific on the dollars. Now comes the problem that that dash is no longer available from GM and there is no stock available according to them. So they want you to replace the dash with something else. I do not want a mix and match interior. Finally in frustration I gave up. There was substantial post about 2 years ago but I am unable to find them now.

I would think pulling the windshield, if that would work, would be far easier and have less of a chance of screwing something up.

I haven’t actually pulled the dash but I got the entire interior out in under three hours. That was seats, door panels, steering wheel, console, all the carpet, ac unit, radio.

The most difficult part for me was figuring out the electrical connectors and how the come apart.

I would say ten hours tops going the dash removal, repair and reinstall. For me, I would feel more comfortable having the dash out and inspected by a quality upholster.

Default Fingers crossed...

Just bought a mint '12 GS 4 4LT Convertible...thought about getting an extended warranty but after reading this LONG POST I see it wouldn't do any good if this issue arises...I will be "keeping my fingers crossed".

checked with a windshield installer and he said no guarantee that the windshield would come out without breaking it. I have HUD and a replacement windshield is $900 plus installation.

When you know what you are doing it is not a problem. There is a small indie shop not far from me and the family has been in the glass business for 70 years. The guy that did my Cadiilac personally has been doing glass for 40 years and he was like a skilled surgeon. He had the windshield out cleanly in 10 minutes.

I have 13 GS 4lt and I think I am wearing the dash out because every time I read one of these posts I go out and mash around on the dash to see if it is coming up. So far no problems at all...

ours is an '08 and garage kept with 24000 miles and the problem didn't show up until last summer, it has gotten worse this past winter.

I have had my 2008 4lt vert for 10 years now no problem with dash but did have problem with the pillars bubbling up. I had them replaced once while under warranty but noticed recently that happening again.

Read the terms. Many extended warranties do NOT cover "cosmetic" things like leather dash coming loose.

Ok, since I have a 4LT dash which hasent failed yet, I can only think that my turn will come. I haven't seen much talk about an alternative such as replacing the leather with the standard plastic dash (although I understand the asthetics). Is this possible? Are they available? Thanks guys.

Your dash might be fine. My dash failed within one year. The replacement still looks great after 5 years. (Has it really been that long?)

I think it is likely that the fault (whatever the cause) gets revealed in the dash quickly.

Cheers,
JB

Mine was replaced by a dealer under warranty. I do not know the cost though someone provided it in a post above.

Cheers,
JB

I had it done at the dealer using an OEM new dash in the past year. Total with a decent discount on the dash was $3300. :-( I've yet to ask GMPP to reimburse any of it but I should as my car is still under the extended GM warranty.

Default 2008 4LT coupe

Glad I found this thread. I live in Southern California and my car has been garaged except when i’m On a road trip. My dash just started to display these symptoms about a year ago. I was out on the GM parts house web site and the 4LT dash was still available in brick/black and black/black. The one I need linin/black is discontinued. The price on the ones available are $1695.
I guess my only option is to remove it and have it reglued.
