Default The "Base" Corvette

It wasn't until very recently that the Corvette Coupe is now commonly referred to as the "base" Corvette. In all the years of Corvette..no one ever called any Corvette...base! I can understand how this has happened since we now have 7 models of Corvettes and the Coupe is the entry level. Still....don't call it a "Base Corvette". Corvette Coupe or Convertible are still the official name for these models.

Even back in the C5 days before the C6....I've always referred to the standard coupe as a base model. Nothing new...nothing recent. Just the way it is.

I had a 2010 C6 1LT Coupe. I feel the term "base" coupe as it applies to a Corvette means just what I had. If it's a C6 2LT, 3LT or 4LT coupe then I don't consider those 3 optioned C6's as a "base" coupe.

Not sure what the big deal is people call it whatever they want... 99.99999% of the time I am sure the term is not being used as a negative ..its just a word to distinguish it from the other models.

You answered your own question really look how may versions of the C6 are now available... a Corvette Coupe is a GS also and there is a GS Vert of course too..

Since there is now a Z07 and Carbon version of the Z06, people refer to the Z06 as "base Z06" too.. not really a big deal IMO

Same topic already being discussed here:

Although, I absolutely agree with you, your constant threads on these subjects is getting old.

I think the unofficial descriptive term "base" has just worked its way into the Corvette-user language over time... more so with the advent
(for 2010) of the two GS models sharing the same frame & LS3 engine (ignore the differentiated LS3 dry-sump for the moment here).

The base Corvette in my humble opinion is the 1LT, which is the RPO 1YY07.

I have no problem calling my coupe a "base" corvette. It is after all a 1LT and as such is the base model of the lineup.

Corvette base is a LOT different than Honda Civic base. Besides, nobody outside the Corvette community knows or cares. They just see "Corvette" regardless of Zo6, GS, ZR1 not to mention all the trim levels provided in each.

Every ladder has a bottom rung. Not a bad thing, just the way it is.

I dont know. The little Scion FRS is actually a fun little car to drive.

But it isnt a Vette.

I just dont get the whole Base vs. GS thing.

It is like hot blonde vs. hot brunette. They are different but they are both a fun ride.

In all of car land there is a "base model",a "PKG THIS THAT OR THE OTHER THING" model. and a "loaded" model.Simply refers to the car's contents. What's the problem? The 'BASE VETTE' has no hud, heated seats and many other itmes that the upscale Vette does have, hence it is a base Vette!

Sounds like from a couple of you... too many! I guess the cooler and rainy weather has prompted an increase in my threads. Guess I should back off.

yeah for a while when I got my 05 1sb, I got a bit "defensive" when people called it a base. I felt like it was demeaning, since I had pretty much every option available for the 05. Now I understand it more, and that Base isn't really a negative thing.

ACE OF BASE baby!

But I'd like to add that I hope GM provide a name for each model C7, rather than simply leaving it blank. No other GM brand/model is devoid of a model name.
