Melting Slicks
Seeing the C8 and that warm fuzzy feeling
...of knowing that we now probably own the very last big bore convertible corvettes with manual transmissions that will ever be built

It has been said for 6 years they are the last of the big bore verts, and with the C8 not having a manual trans, at least for now we have the last great combo.
(Over time, hopefully this fact will matter to a wider audience than 2500 of us, or so. )
However, there was a time when "the last Camaro" rolled off the assembly line, back in 2002, so who the heck knows?
The last front-engine, big bore, stick shift convertible Corvette?
Whatever it is, I'm elated to have one.

2013 427, fixed the valve guide issue before it became one.
2013 427, fixed the valve guide issue before it became one.
Took my 2013 427 Convertible to Katech for the stage 2 package (Torquer 116 cam). Originally I wanted to only address the Achilles heel of this LS engine, the valve guides but thought it over and went with the stage 2 package. Folks my car only has 20K miles on it (short WOT blasts here and there and 3K max miles per oil change ), a majority of them all cruising miles. Take a look at the valve guide inspection sheet prior to removal. I think it is fair to say that I probably would have had an issue with this engine. Needless to say, I am very happy with the communication and service I received from Katech.
Some quick notes:
- Toured Katech back in May sat down with Jason to discuss options. Impressive machining capabilities and one of the few shops with an ISO 9100 cert?
- Dropped off car June 13th. 274 miles, 4 hour drive in crappy rain soaked day.
- Initial inspection of the entire car showed issues with my upper heater hose, reservoir cap and all 4 shocks were leaking. Will address the shocks at home dealership.
- Baseline dyno 434 HP and 411 Torque
- Notified the car will be ready for pick up the 2nd week of July, booked flight to July 10th to DTW, nice airport and $43 UBER to Katech.
- Post stage 2 dyno results: 524 HP and 476 Torque. +90 HP gain and +65 TQ gain.
- Drove car back to western PA, 4 hour drive. Again got caught in rain storm, no issues with the car, feels different though. Strong!
- I have notice some surging / chugging due to the new cam. Not that big of an issue quite frankly.
I like doing most of my communication by email, Jason Harding was very attentive and answered any question I had. While picking up my vert I met with President Steve Spurr (good guy) and had a pretty lengthy conversation with Greg Dansbury (sp?), wow, this guy knows his stuff and has worked on all kinds of different engine platforms over his career. Good man.
I plan on driving the car for the rest of the season and perhaps take it back to Katech for a checkup, who knows perhaps another mod?
I would recommend Katech.

Oh yeah! The good thing is it still has a lot of grace. Many have private messaged me to find out my other mods. I forgot to mention that this was a bone stock from the factory car before stage two, I pulled the fuse so the flaps stay open on the exhaust system. I guess down the road maybe an exhaust system is next?

Never say never but I just got used to the tail lights on the C7 so the stubby nose of a mid engine will take me a while. Plus our 427s are classics and so rare. I have only seen one other one in my province and believe that he and I have the only two. And the Night Race Blue metallic on mine is always getting compliments.

If the C8 vert agrees with me when they reveal it, will probably order one in a year or two. Have three Vettes now so if a C8 is in my future at least one is going to have to go - however the 427 vert is a keeper.

Nope...……………. keeping my Torch Red 427 and had no interest in a C7, even a Z06 as I preferred the normally aspirated engine configuration versus a supercharged engine...……
so much, that I recently bought a low mileage, garage queen C5 coupe to drive much more often than my 427 which just rolled over 30K and has been in more than a few great spots of the USA...…….
looked for another C6, but it was too good of a deal to pass on my recent C5 acquisition...……………..
