What's a young guy to do? Start off by ignoring the stereotypes. If you really want a Corvette then go buy one. I bought my first when I was 26. It was an 82 Collector Edition I bought used back in 1985. I have not been without a Vette since. I'm currently 54 with two C6's in the garage. I'm not bald (yet), one gold chain (24" so it doesn't show), bare chest (trace of Native American blood).
I have never let other people's opinions or perceptions sway my decision in any automotive purchase. You shouldn't either.

Bought my Z06 Yellow with Powder Coated Black rims and Matte black *** at age 30..
I wear a Gold Chain ! and dont have Chest hair, well few and i hope it stays that way.
But, i do have to say...
In the warmer days i went to the local meet by me to try and meet some corvette people, maybe find a club... and I swear no lie !!!!
the guys were not in the old category but had to be in the ancient category !!!
All the cars were nice but the guys were soooo old.. I couldnt join.. I would def have nothing in common with any of them !!!
NO LIE !!!! one was using a walker and carrying an 02 tank with the tubes in his nose...
I was shocked !!!!!

Wait till the cougars see you at those meets. You think your shocked now. You'll have your hands full. Just remember. Be gentle. If your married, watch your wife. Gold chains, hairy chest lots of money and compliments you might lose her. Old lions have got the biggest prides. All kidding aside most of the time these high end toys are owned by people that have been there, done that. That includes success and childeren raised and such. Read these posts. These cars are gifts to thy self for the most part. Mine is part of my bucket list so to speak. I'm terminally ill with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. (Google it) I wanted a convertible. Didn't want a Mustang or a Le baron. Green BMW's were just not me either. Decades ago I liked vettes. One day I said Ah heck. I'm buyng a vert.

The question I get all the time from all those surprised friends and relatives is “Why" did you buy a Corvette? This is usually followed by a comment like “At your age!". I respond with "It's a bucket list item. That normally stops the ridicule and probably leaves them with the idea that I am terminally ill. BTW who ever heard of a "Bucket List" before the movie came out?

I have always liked and wanted Corvettes since i was a teenager. Now I am a 29 year old who makes a decent income and I can finally afford one. But everyone i come across seems to think that this is the kind of vehicle for old men who like to wear gold chains with hairy chests and tattoos. Kind of like Jersey Shore but now we have senior citizens on Viagra driving these beautiful machines. Are there any young professionals out there who drive or own these things? Also would i stick out like a sore thumb if i had a yellow c6 Z06???
Not a single tattoo, either, and I am a retired professional and upper management.
I guess I just ruined your little tirade about us old farts. Tell me, did I see you on the track at Talladega when I was driving 162 MPH on the high banked turns in my C6 Z06? Maybe I saw you drooling over my 1956 or my 1964 Corvette at a car show?

I wanted a Vette ever since I was a pre-teen and so far I've owned 1. I wasn't 29 when I bought it either, I was waaaayyyyyyy older. So please enjoy your youth because most of us older guys this is a fountain of youth and we are dam lucky to have them!!!

Yes, the stereotypes are definitely there. Not sure about the gold chains and hairy chest thing though. I've got some friends who crack jokes and such cause I'm half Japanese and drive an C6. Funny thing is, my previous car was a Subaru WRX. Each time I buy a different car, I rotate between domestic and imports, haha.
Just go out and drive what makes you happy. Who cares what anyone else thinks. Besides, with all the killings and such these days, isn't the mid-life avg. around 30 now anyways, lol

Do they pick on you because its an old mans car and you are younger or because you are half Japanese and they are known for driving 30 miles under the speed limit with their blinker on?
Just messing with you.
But you are right, who cares what you drive other than you?

Well, just remember. All those old men who like to wear gold chains with hairy chests and tattoos were once 29 year old young professionals. Most were arrogant and oblivious to this fact as well.
When you are old and on Viagra, and believe me you will be, if you are lucky enough to still be alive, I'm pretty sure you'll still want a Corvette. As long as your trophy wife will let you, that is.

Cruising
When I bought my '08 I heard all the jokes about it being a 'Mid Life Crisis' a 'insecurity complex' a 'compensation for sexual inadequacy' ...most of it is good nature ribbing from friends...a few who may be a bit jealous (Admittedly) ...but my point is...its NOT ABOUT ANY OF THAT, and its not about ME....ITS ABOUT THE CAR ! I enjoy the car as much doing 30mph as I do going down the Interstate, or opening it up on a straightaway, and I don't care one bit what ANYONE else thinks. If you like the car, buy it and just enjoy it Peace.
BTW for the record, I am in my mid 50's....and grew up building cars....spending $2500 or more (in 1970's dollars) in parts and machine shop work to get a smallblock to put out 425HP..... to be able to go out and drive a factory car that meets or exceeds that standard (Without the rumble and rock that the performance Cam's use to give us) is amazing to me.

That may be true. Last spring I thought I was ready and I was personally (bought an 08), but didn't realize that a mid 30's guy driving a vet was going to irk off so many people over the age of 50 (that's the only people that ripped on me, and only people I knew, no strangers). Just made me uncomfortable unfortunately, just ruined the experience for me as it made me self conscious to drive it. Sold it after three months. Wasn't sure how long it would be before I'd drive a vet again....
...well I found out, it's now. Bought a 72 c3. It's perfect for me because there's nothing anyone can say about it...anyone that gives you crap for a classic car is a moron. And I can have fun restoring it as well, so it should work out overall. Just glad to be a vette owner again, I did it right the 2nd time (hopefully).
