To JiffyLube or not to JiffyLube, that is the question

I've never changed my own oil in the 51 years I've owned a car, but I've also never taken a vehicle to Jiffy Lube. The Chevy dealer who does my oil changes also checks all the fluids and a few other things for no extra charge. But then, I've had pretty good service from my local Chevy dealer for the last 33 years.

Got tired of spending near $100 for a single service. Bought a pair of 3" race ramps to bring the car up enough to fit the floor jack underneath. Made up the cost with 2 DIY's. Get a little dirty to save a few bucks. Don't know about you but how do you think I was able to afford a nice ride in the 1st place? By not giving away my money so easily.
Oh yeah, put one of those fujimoto valves in as well. No more fiddlin' with the oil plug.

You mean the 20 year old manager with no experience except the two years he's worked at JL and fills his car with synthetic and refills the qts with standard oil out of the drums to sell to anyone but his friends? Oh ok

Local Jiffy Lube changed the oil in a friends truck but made on "slight" mistake....forgot to put oil back in. Results were as one would expect two blocks away.

I don't have drain plugs in any of my vehicles. I have Fumoto valves. Don't necessarily use 'Jiffy Lube but a place or two like it. I supply my oil and filters. Once in a while I use a dealer but they always put up a squawk about standing with your vehicle. I stopped doing that myself years ago. I don't cut grass either or clean out my own gutters.

C7 of the Year - Unmodified Finalist 2021
Never took the Vette to a jiffy lube place, took a previous car there once and never went back because of all of the cross selling BS...used to take the Vette to a Chevy dealer where I only had to pay for the labour after supplying my oil/filter but could not put up with their cross selling BS and the fact that they overfilled my car every time.
I invested in ramps and have been doing my own changes for the past year...if I can do it then anybody can.

Got some good friends who work at Firestone, I let them do the dirty work, and I get employee pricing. $20 for a change and don't have to take a shower afterwards.

No no no!!!
I do the oil changes on all our cars. I let it drain or drip for at least a half hour. I want every drop of old oil out. The shops do not have time for that.

There are alot of threads on DIY oil changes. Search is your friend. Having said that...Drive your Vette up on a pair of 2x12's. Use your jack...lay on the ground and you should be able to reach everything you need to do your own oil change. If you track your car...then by all means use the best filter you can get....but in my opinion if you put less than 5000 miles a year on your car, which means a once a year oil change....a cheap Fram Oil Filter will do. Don't skimp on the oil though...MOBIL 1 5w-30
Anywho, Wow more people for, take it to a shop, than I expected! But yeah someone's right about $100 full synthetic oil changes at a chain, it is pricey. Also never thought about those side rails at JL pits might scrap my car.
I'll get some ramps. If my chevy truck gets my DIY attention from me, so should my vette, I do like the 2x12 ramps mentioned, saw a picture on another thread of a vette backed up on em (might have been ur captain)

I'd trust the kids at the local Valvoline shop to do it right. Problem is, all they carry is Valvoline. I frequent an independent shop I trust that carry's Mobil 1. As for as the Pep Boy type places go though, the guy would have to be a total imbecile to screw it up.....which means you've got about a 50% chance of having it done right.
