Used C6 - Formerly Supercharged | Danger Will Robinson?
What do you think about a formerly supercharged '08 C6 with ~30k miles?
Personally, knowing very little about what supercharging actually does.. this scares me a bit.
Is that fear misplaced? Or is a formerly-supercharged used car a lemon waiting to burst?
Of course, this may be situational and driver dependent, just looking for some general thoughts on the matter.

Drifting
The supercharger was put on to go faster. The previous owner probably tracked or street raced it. Who spends ~$6k-$9K installing s a supercharger and drives the speed limit?
Personally, I wouldn't touch it.

And dang ...
The search continues!
Nothing against modded cars, but .. they were modded so they could be beat on. This particular example is quite beautiful as well.

Why is it a "formerly" supercharged C6? Although many people use superchargers without any problems, I'm not a fan of slapping a supercharger on a stock, cast-piston engine. IMO anytime you push an engine beyond its designed specs and limits problems can happen. I would assume a supercharged Corvette has been 'pushed.' The car may be fine but I wouldn't buy it.

I would be apprehensive but not necessarily scared away. My friend had an LS3 coupe that was cammed, e-force, and headers. He tried to sell it with the mods with no luck. He demodded the car and returned it to stock with all of the original parts. The car sold and has now a been daily driver for two years with no issues. It was never raced or tracked in any way while modded. Some spirited street driving but nothing illegal. The current owner bought the car with 11K miles and it now has over 30K miles.
Not all supercharged cars have been raced or beat on. My 06 that I bought new has been supercharged since 2009 and gets driven on the street only. My reasons for modding it had nothing to do with racing it. I just wanted 500+rwhp.

Safety Car
If it had a good tune while it was supercharged, chances are it's ok; but you'd never know the condition of it without taking things apart.

Think a PPI would uncover any of these issues?
I assume the compression could indicate potential problems caused by a supercharger.
I would love 500wHP, nothing against a supercharger
From a buyers perspective, it's a warning sign for sure..

You'll probably get some good answers about things to expect on the forced induction board: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-f...n-nitrous-123/

I have an 09 with an eforce, had it installed for 2 plus years and I don't track or beat on mine, you just get a little more kick when you want it, IF I sold mine (and I don't ever plan on doing so) I would probably let it go with the car. I think what is said above is the key, knowing the history of the car and its previous owner would be the deciding factor for me.

"In honor of jpee"
the fact that you were even told about it is something of a miracle. it is not a car for me. others may disagree but if it's for them, so be it.

I bought a car that was blown, cammed, and had a clutch, headers, RPM trans, and RPM diff installed plus a bunch of other stuff. Did he run it? Sure he did, but not a lot. Some folks have a bunch of $$$ to pour into the cars and really don't end up driving them very much. He just wanted to be able to say he had over 600 HP...now if he tracked the car all the time that would be different...

This would be my answer. If someone were to buy my car as is or put back to stock, they would get years of service from it. I don't race the car and with a good tune, the car won't be hurt. The car is "stock" as long as it's out of boost. Boost is rare in my car but I'm old and retired. Someone in their 20s with my car would most likely be wearing out the tires and the engine.

Well gents, against my better judgment, I bought it.
24k miles, phenomenal shape, '08 base, $29k.
The owner is an honest person, extremely knowledgeable about cars, so I felt confident in the purchase.
VERY hyped to pickup the beast.
Hoho Jerry, I own a Vette! (almost)
