Optima Digital 400 charger /Review
I have used it a week trying all the inputs / displays . Works fine with NO transformer buzz or heat ,it has an annoying battery analysis scan when first connected which lasts a minute or two . It shines on the display
of volts / amps with a back lit LCD dial and percentage of complete charge light bars above .
After a normal drive it will charge at 14.6 V and 2 - 3 amps ( max 4 ) for an hour .
Its drops to 14. V and 1.5 amps at 3 hours its 13.8 /14. V and zero amps .
Two type of connections are included , smaller 2" alligator battery post clips ( better than the stamped steel copper plated clip normally sold ) . The other has lug rings for small 5/16 battery post bolt with a ( generic ) slip together connector cord keeping polarity correct . Plenty of cord to reach the car .
It feels like a thick Multimeter in the hand , a few options to mount or hang it on the wall or car hood . I like that it pushes the battery up to 13.8 - 14 v as the 12.5 v minimum for a Vette is easy to drop below .
Other cycles are de-sulfate / float charge only cycles a few times a day .
after 30 days it de-sulfates on auto charge . Auto reverse polarity detection and zero spark connection
Now at 110 bucks is it better than some 20 buck Walmart bass boat trickle charger ? For me Yes , I'm a sucker for the display and being that it is more or less designed for optima batteries is a plus .
Not as practical as a $90 leather console cover or $4000 set of shocks LOL .

Good write-up. I have the Optima 1200 which does a few extra things but they are both great products.

I guess it depends on the cars wiring , with everything off I cant back feed 12v into the cigarette lighter plug on my 2005 . Maybe in accessory mode , another port , I haven't tried it .
