Targa Top Creaking, Popping, Squeaking FIXED!!
First off, big thanks to forum member jdk541 for posting "It's Like Getting a Brand New Car for $3.03" last year. Based on that post, I fixed my horribly popping, squeaking, creaking targa top for . . . (drum roll) . . . 75 cents! My story - 2009 that had no issues - but I like to drag race - and after a couple trips to the strip, I started having the issues with the top making noise. At first, I thought my stereo was clipping - it really sounded like the speakers having issues. But the "popping" sound proved to be the targa top. Long story short, I went to Lowe's after work today, they didn't have the Danco brand O-rings in the aforementioned post, so I bought a slightly thicker O-ring. I immediately noticed more muscle needed to secure the front latches. The bottom line was going from brutal creaking and popping that even the stereo could not mask to DEAD SILENCE after spending $.075 tonight! I'm simply stoked. The info on this forum is fantastic!

If I understand your question, no, you are adding a second o-ring on each post.
I found Home Depot didn't have the Danco package but Lowes across the street did. That was the only stock number that seemed to be in demand. I wonder why?

I just bought the "O" rings from Home Depot, 1/4" ID. I also bought the "E" clips from there, an earlier post had recommended 5/32" clips stocked by Lowes but they never seemed to have that size either (another "I wonder why", ), I read you could also use 3/16" clips and Home Depot had them so I bought them too. Will put them in soon, still kinda cold here in NY so my top hasn't been making a lot of noise....yet.

I added two O-rings to the front posts of my targa top last summer, but they have since worn out. I need to replace them with something a bit more durable. Are these brasscraft o-rings made of sturdy plastic or rubber?

Gonna try this. Done the E clips and they help but still some noise sometimes.
What section of Lowes are these O Rings? Pretty sure if I ask the typical teenage staff member for rubber O Rings they're not gonna have a clue what I'm talking about.

Simply add one more O-ring to each post
Lol - thanks for noticing! I saw the dog toy sitting there so thought I'd include it in the pic and see if anyone noticed

Looked for "O" rings at Lowes, Home Depot, Advanced Auto and Autozone. No luck. I'll have to try Ace Hardware next. They had everything but the 1/2" OD x 1/4" ID. But I'm gonna keep looking! Thanks for the tip.

This was purchased today at lowes. The part number is #78 and is found in the plumbing aisle.
