2005 owners manual states

5.5 quarts of oil - page 5-94

PF44 oil filter - page 6-13

18 lbs ft torque -first page of second link

I've been told on this forum that the Z51 model took 6 quarts of oil, it's not noted in the '05 manual but is noted in the '06 and up manual, same exact LS2 engine. I think it had to do with the oil cooler (extra capacity) on the Z51.....I use 6 qts. when I change mine and it's not overfull.

I use 6 qts in my '05 even though there is no oil cooler. Extra 1/2 qt isn't gonna hurt anything.

You are right, the PF46 did not replace the UPF44. It replaced the PF44. I called the dealer near here and he said the PF46 was the correct filter. That is what was on the car when I took it off. (The last oil change was by a dealer) That is what O'Reilleys said when I bought it. So, that is what I put on. I called my buddy who has a GTO and he said he puts in 6 1/2 quarts. I measured everything while I was filling it and I ended putting in about 6 quarts and 8 ounces. 6 1/2 quarts would be about 1/4 inch over the full mark and I don't like that. (Although it wouldn't hurt anything.) So, the book is wrong. It should take 6 1/2 quarts. Not 5 1/2 quarts. And I did torque the oil pan bolt down, even though I didn't really have to. But, thanks for all of your help. I've been changing oil for 40 years but you never know when you might miss something. That is why I wanted to be sure. Thanks again.

i bought the fumoto oil drain plug from amazon. i believe the part # is f107 if not mistaken. take out the original plug (keep it in tool box or whatever) insert the fumoto and push the lever to dispense the oil into the pan. never have to take it off, works like a charm due to the fact it saves time. lol

I have a grandsport. I torque both drain plugs and the oil filter to specifications in the service manual.

Related question- getting ready for my first GS dry sump change - do the drain bolts have crush washers? If so, you all are replacing each time, right?

GM engine drain bolts haven't used plastic or aluminum crush washers in a very long time. What is used is rubber and is shaped like a flat washer with an integral o-ring. Generally it can be reused but I like to replace every 4 or 5 oil changes because rubber like plastic will evenually suffer the ravenges of heat and time. You won't be happy after a fresh oil change if there is a slow seep from the drain plug.

Not necessarily..... They actually recommend to overfill the base C6 vettes by 1 quart if you are tracking/racing your vette, as per page 9-5in my 2011 owner's manual. Here is the quote:

"Except ZO6, ZR1, and Grand
Sport:
Be sure to check the oil
level often during racing or other
competitive driving and keep the
level at or near 1 L (1 qt) above
the upper mark that shows the
proper operating range on the
engine oil dipstick. After the
competitive driving, remove
excess oil so that the level on
the dipstick is not above the
upper mark that shows the
proper operating range
."

18 lb. - ft. for the 2 drain plugs, and 22 lb. - ft. on the filter. Not much.
