Default Factory chrome wheel rust

'08 3LT with chrome factory wheels. Out of OEM warranty but covered by GMPP. All 4 wheels are pitting and rusting. Garage kept for life of car but driven (44k miles). So, am I out of luck with any coverage by GM?

I don't know the first thing about GMPP but my guess is you're totally out of luck.

they use magnesium, calcium or sodium chloride on a lot of roads, not washing them off will cause it. sucks but not covered by gmpp...they would do a one time good will replacement under bumper to bumper warranty.also gm was talking about using a product called Wheel Wax
to help protect wheels

I know this doesn't really answer the question you asked, but....

I don't know what to say if you really have serious pitting. However, after this winter, my chrome wheels had quite a bit of rust, esp in the corners where the spokes met the circumference. I was very surprised how much of that I was able to remove. I used Turtle Wax brand chrome wheel cleaner and a rag.

It may be worth a try?

IIRC, GMPP does not cover chrome or bright work.
You can find the details in your contract.

Good luck!

I am fairly certain that udrive and gearhead are correct. I would try some of the wheel cleaners, then chrome polishes/cleaners. There are some chemical cleaners like NevrDull and Ibiz's wheel cleaner (similar to NevrDull).

Rust? There is no iron or steel in a Corvette wheel, how can it rust? The aluminum may corrode (aluminum oxide?) and the Chrome peel away but there is nothing to rust.

Thanks for the comments! As pointed out, no rust, jut rust looking. Tried some of the metal polish I use in the exhaust tips and sure enough, the spots are gone. I'll take the wheels off this weekend and polish them followed by a good coating of a protective sealant. Maybe they'll last another 5 years!!
