2021 C6 of the Year Finalist - Modified

Default You folks with Michelin 'Pilot Super Sport' tires > ok?

I don't need new tires yet for my GS, but just thinking ahead here.

I have a set of Nitto's on the car now. I am happy with them, but always willing to try something different (as long as there Non run-flat).

I see the Michelin 'Pilot Super Sport' tires are available in the standard GS / Z06 sizes, and they are not run-flats.

I am mostly concerned right now with just good tire mileage and low noise.

I see these tires have a UTQG (wear rating) of 300. Of course, I guess these wear ratings are pretty much worthless in the real world.

Anyway, for you folks that have had Michelin 'Pilot Super Sport' tires ... what do you think of them?

Thanks,

I guess I should have looked closer at the other threads active right now ... someone else was asking about these tires.

I think my main concern is how these tire wear in comparison to maybe a set of Nitto's.

I was racing this weekend and as I staged the rain started to come down, about half way down the track the big white fat guy threw 4 tires on my car and they worked great.
I like them and they get pretty good traction at the track ran 12.20 and they are quiet .They don't grip that good in the rain .I was on my way home and decided to punch it and they break lose pretty easy on the street.

I have around 7k miles on mine and they are down to 8/32ds which is 2/32ds of tread gone. I would estimate mid-high 20k range for their life.

They are still relatively quiet, definitely quieter than brand new OEM tires.

After I got rid of the stock GY's I purchased a set of PSS in the 345/285 combo and it is one of the best things I could have done. There is no other tire that I would even consider, These Michelins are the way to go.

I'm liking my Nitto's on my Z06....after my experience with the Michelins on my C5 I don't see ever purchasing a set of Michelins again...the cost of the Michelins isn't worth it when there are other tires that are as good or better for less money....IMO the Michelins are overpriced...people get wrapped up in the name and figure that if they cost more they must be better

You answered your own question with the Mich. tread wear of 300. You will have longer life; but less traction than your Invo's at 220.
Noise won't be any different.
IMHO , Mich. tires are not cost effective.

I have Nitto NT-05 on the rear. I think they have even a lower tread wear rating than 220 ... but they hook almost as good as drag radials.

Super Sports are cheaper than the stock Goodyear's. They are great on a C6. A big improvement over stock in every way. Cheaper brands out there, but we probably wouldn't be driving Corvettes if we went with the cheaper option. I never considered other brands as they are probably not better and the savings is practically nothing over their life span.

Michelins are priced higher ...but from a friend of mine who is an engineer with a tire company we all know...all to well. Michelin is the tire to go with...he told me they have better quality and inspection with them...he has Michelin on his cars..so that might say something. Now people like things that work well for them and they tend to stick with them...some like Pirrellis..some do not. I would say, read through all the posts and if a majority of people like them..then try them for yourself. I happen to have them on my vehicles and love them, when time comes, they will be on my 12 GS. I have Michelins on my 67 and love them. Good luck.

I couldn't agree more. I got wrapped up in the hype and drank the "Kool Aide"I really don't see or feel or hear a difference between these and the stock tires. Over priced and over rated

You probably want to see a doctor if that is the case. We have two negative posts, one from his C5 which is a different engineered car to begin with. Depending on when the Michelins he had were probably not Super Sports since they are relatively new. And one from someone that cannot hear or feel the difference over stock Goodyears. Also couldn't see but unless he is hanging out the window when driving I can see that happening.

$1600 for stock GS/Z06 size. How is that expensive? The OP asked about Super Sports not PS2 ZPs which are more expensive.

Since most Super Sport owners even on this forum probably spent $1600 or more on their tires, apparently they believe that they are not over rated. Also to be fair to Michelin compare tires that last around 25-30k for cost comparison. That is basically two sets of Goodyears that cost more to begin with.

Good point. In fact, a set of GS sized Pilot Super Sport tires even cost less than $1,600 shipped to the door:

Michelin 'Pilot Super Sport' (Non Run-Flat)

(2 ea) . . 275 / 35ZR-18"

(2 ea) . . 325 / 30ZR-19"

$1,380 +$91 Shipping = $1,471 . . -$70 Michelin mail-in Rebate = $1,401 Shipped

In fact, the Pilot Super Sports are only $272 more than a set of 4 Nitto Invo:

Nitto 'Invo' (Non Run-Flat)

(2 ea) . . 275 / 35ZR-18"

(2 ea) . . 325 / 30ZR-19"

$1,128 with free shipping

Read this... Got my PSS's for around $1300, and I missed the $70 rebate!! The 345's are actually cheaper than 325's!
