oil change
Hello all, being a new owner of a Vette I have a question....will regular car ramps accomodate the low clearance of a 2011 GS without scraping the front end or the rear? She is due for an oil change and need some guidance. I have seen low profile ramps but I figured I would ask before I try.

The low profile ramps are pricey, but "regular" ramps are too steep. Your plastic splitter will scrape.
You can build some helper extensions out of 2x12's with angled cuts on the ends, if they are 2 layers deep.
Or do what I do... Low clearance jack with jackstand and done in 10 minutes.

You can go to the raceramps.com site and they give good info on what size ramp will fit your car. I ve used the old metal ramps, made wood ramps. Tomorrrow I am ordering 57 inch race ramps for my 13 GS. There is an e bay vender selling new 57 inch race ramps for $228 inc shipping

I used 2x8" boards I had lying around to make a set of ramps using a circular saw and my rudimentary skills at woodworking. Cost: $0. They work perfect, raising the car just enough to allow eiither of my floor jacks (regular or low-profile) to slide under the front, but they aren't needed for the rear with either jack. See this thread for more info and earlier links on jacking.

I made some ramps along the lines of these. My modifications were using 2 x 6 boards, three as the ribs. I covered with 3/4" plywood. Also, I did not cut the variable pitch incline. The boards go from about 1/2" to 5 5/8" over about 4 feet. I made a 12" flat spot at the end of the ramp. Should have made that a little larger but it still works. Very solid.

I just did my first oil change on my 2012 Coupe and used my drive up Rhino ramps.
As other owners have suggested, I placed a short 2 x 12 just prior to each Rhino ramp to elevate the car just slightly as it hit the ramp entrance. It seemed to work just fine both going up and down the ramp. YMMV
Since I use these same ramps for my other cars, I did not want to purchase a special set for the Vette.

eBay is an expensive place to buy Race Ramps due to the exorbitant fees. After the current $20 factory rebate you can get the 2-PC 56" ramps for well under $200 at www.reverselogic.us

If you have a low profile floor jack that will fit under your Vette. save your self the carpentry work.....just use the jack to lift your car and slide the ramps under the tires......so simple a caveman....you know the drill......

I made a pair just like those and here's a little tip. I put them behind the front wheels and back onto them. That way, the tails of the ramps are in front of the car and they dont get in the way when crawling under the car to change oil.

i use the 10" high race ramps never touch the car when driving up them. i paid quite a bit but don't forget, it's a vette and worth it.

I jack up the drivers side slide my oil catch pan under. Remove the filter then the plug. Let the car down which lets the balance of the oil in the pan drain out. Walk away have a beer come back in 10 put the new filter in and put the plug back in. 10-12 minutes and done. No ramps no lining things up.
