I read somewhere that in NY it's just a $25 fine. For $25 I am willing to risk not having one but I imagine by the time I am getting my 4th or 5th one the Mrs. might not be too happy. I have driven past plenty of cops who either don't want to bother or don't notice.

check w. motor vehicle dept. it may not be the cost of the ticket, but court costs, filing fees, etc. which can drive a $25 ticket up to just shy of $100. you don't even have to ask me how I know..

I got a warning ticket a couple months ago. I plan on putting a plate on, but I am currently fabricating my own mount because I don't like any of the ones on the market.
My experience has been that the local jurisdictions I drive through don't care about the front plate, but the Texas DPS troopers do.

UGH!. In that cast I think my wife will have my hide by the first one. Does putting it in the front windshield count? I have seen that done before. As for getting a ticket while parked, I guess I will have to make sure I park face first whenever possible.

I've had mine on the dash for nearly 2 years. While it's technically not legal, I have not been hassled by the law, so far.

In the windshield is the same as not having it on at all. The law states something along the lines of "must be firmly mounted to the front of the car in a vertical position".

When I lived on Long Island, I got 3 warnings in a year by over zealous, but, benevolent L.E.O.'s. I finally got a TopFlight plate holder and mounted the front plate. It took me a while to get used to the look and now it doesn't bother me. I can't stand DMV problems at all. I had too many of them when I was younger. It's just a way for them to take my hard earned money and aggravate me. So, I complied!

There was a famous MC officer in DT Seattle that was the scourge of no-front-plate "scofflaws"... Vettes, P-cars... all the cool car guys feared him. I got a ticket in my 911S when he was speeding by me going the opposite direction... he pulled a U turn that Hollywood would have loved.
I moved to AZ to get away from him. lol

I got tired of the no front plate problem here in Ca and didn't want to pay over $100 for the removable front plate mount sold by forum dealers here so I looked on eBay and purchased a removable front plate mount for $40.
It looks about the same as the $100 ones sold here. I just get the double side tape dirty and keep the license plate on the mount then put it in the trunk. I got stopped a couple of times for no front plate and I just showed the police that the double side tape gave away therefore it fell off. I am going to get a stronger double side tape to get it remounted. Both times I was let off with a "get the plate mounted soon" warning.

Haven't had front plates on 3 of our 4 vehicles here in CO for many years. No tickets or warnings. The only time I've heard of people here getting ticketed is when they're parked on the street in downtown Denver; the meter maids issue the tickets for revenue generation. It's a $25 ticket here so I'll continue to take my chances.

I live in here in CO and in my corvette I've never had an issue with the law. But way back in the day when I had my 05' neon srt4 I'd get pulled over all the time
