Default Had a pretty cool opportunity tonight.......................

One of my buddies is an engineer for Seagate and he had a couple of his coworkers over to this house. They were from China and were finishing up a four month stay here in the US.

He asked if I would come over and give them a ride in the Corvette since they have never had an opportunity to ride in one. I had a heck of time understanding them, but after they both had a ride (a spirited one at that) I could here them say "car is verwy verwy fast".

From what I could understand they said only the very, very rich have sports cars and homes in China. A little middle class home such as mine would go for over a million dollars I had the top off and one of them said the air is so dirty in the city he comes from, you wouldn't be able to that. It sure makes one appreciate the good ole USA..

They took a bunch of pictures with my car so hopefully they will spread a little of the Corvette fever to the other side of the globe...

A few years back, I also entertained a few folks from China. After speaking with them, you tend to appreciate more about what you have.

Nice story.

We took them for a ride around the lakes and stopped at a little cruise in car show and you could tell they were in awe of the way we live. I wish I could have understood them better, it was very interesting talking to them.

When you have a gazillion people living in small areas that's what'll happen. All the motors, be it cycles, cars, truck etc and the factories cause more pollution than you could imagine. That's why we always see them wearing masks in the streets....

A little reminder about how well we live in the USA every now and then is a good thing. It can always be better, but it sure can be worse. We Corvette owners are especially lucky to own such a cool American icon as well. Great post!!

I've been to China a few times now and let me tell you they make some great cars today. I've driven around China in both Chinese built audi's and buicks and they are very well made. The Buick only cost 7,000 American dollars and would easily sell here for 30 grand plus....China is actually an amazing country in terms of development. They get things done at record pace. Obviously they don't have strict rules when it comes to safety and emmissions but they do build some very decent cars. Bejing is an incredible city especially when you look back just ten years and see the massive strides it's taken in such a short period of time.

As far ad drivers go however if your ever driving in China keep your head on a swivel because every 2.minutes you hear tires screaching and a little chinaman goes.flying off his scooter after being hit by a car. They don't really care to much for traffic lights and most of the time choose to ignore them.

I have no doubt that we will start to see Chinese built vehicles here in the states in the near future.

I seem to remember reading an article that GM is partnering with the Chinese government and promised to give them all their R&D...
