I have been using lemon pledge sprayed on an old rag. I wash the tire well with water and a scrub brush first....let dry and apply lemon pledge using a cloth. The tire has no shine whatsoever, looks like a brand new tire when done. No sling either.

I tried a paint trim applicator my wife had laying around. It works great, been using for a year now. Buy a new one every so often, 2.50 at Depot

I use this. Has a nice applicator pad that's curved to fit the tire.

If you use any sponge applicator it's almost impossible to get into to tread corners or you over load the pad to compensate which leads to sling no matter how long you wait. I use homemade cardboard wheel covers with vinyl tubing for handles and Meguiars Hot Shine.

I appreciate the suggestions...but for those who are telling their story of how they get their matt finish that's all great but not requested...this thread is about the wet look not about how you get that matt black new tire but not wet look...if you know how to get wet than start typing...if not than save your techniques for another thread...LOVE YA BABY

I have used the "wet tire" in a spray bottle, and moved it on the tires with a 3" paint brush. Only drawback is the run off over time on the bottom corner panels, doesn't really ever "dry". I'm also looking for a better way to achieve this look too.

Zanio tire product can be put on in several coats to give shine, on my car no sling.

I use NXT insane tire shine sprayed on a applicator sponge and it looks pretty shiny to me. The key is to apply one coat and let dry for 1-2hrs then apply another coat.

I use Meguiars Hot Shine on a foam applicator. Not as high a gloss if you spray it on, but no pitching at all after 30 minutes or so. Just the right gloss for my tastes. Lasts a long time as well.

Don't ever spray that on, it slings horribly!
