The last sporty car I had bought prior to my '10 GS was an '84 Camaro in the fall of '83. That car was stolen and stripped in Houston about a year later... Since then I've been buying sedans and pickups that were sort of practical, though very nice, choices. In early '09 I decided my next car was going to be something fast and sort of expensive - the expensive part so I wouldn't see another one on every corner... (That ruled out the just coming out new Camaro - there are at least 3-4 in the parking lot at work right this second. I don't care for the Camaro interior either...another story...) The first thing that came to my mind was a new Corvette. I then started doing my research and looked into many other cars that would fit the bill. In the end I came back to the Corvette - for the money it's a great deal and it looks fantastic. I was originally going to get a Coupe until I discovered the Grand Sport model coming out for '10. I honestly had never noticed the difference in the Coupe and wide body Z06 or ZR1... (I had only noticed the Z06 had the taller rear spoiler and was going to swap that out immediately. And I call myself an observant car lover! I had never REALLY dug into Corvette information because it wasn't anything I imagined ever owning...and had never seen a Coupe sitting next to a Z06...) My '10 GS lacks about 14 miles having 38,000 miles on it now - very happy miles too! I'm driving it up into Wyoming and Montana from Oklahoma in a couple weeks.

Freedom and inner peace. Widowed after being a caregiver for several years, I needed something for me. I went to the dealer to trade in a car, and heard a loud throaty purr behind me. I turned around and there it was. I got in and never looked back. Still have it, still love it.

Nice!

Nice story....after spending 7 years as a caregiver, I am very aware of what you went through.

Getting something for yourself, was also part of my feelings when I purchased my '13 GS.

After 10 years, my husband encouraged me to get something for myself. Hence, the corvette. It has special meaning for me and I will never sell it. Even to upgrade. Nice thread, OP.

I loved it so much they bought me a 2007 Z06 and now our 2010 ZR1which is 3 years since.
I'll even bet they buy me a C7 when the higher performance version comes out in the next year or so.
Darn.....gotta love those kids.
With your money? LOL What do the kids do?

I always wanted one, but I allowed myself to buy into the impracticality of owning a corvette then one day I said F it (out loud too) and bought one. NOT ONE REGRET and now I want to buy another one This time I want a wide body.

I always liked Vettes from when I was a kid but with two daughters with college, weddings, etc. it wasn't feasible. Also, I lived and worked in the city where I wouldn't be comfortable having one. So when I retired from the FD and moved to Florida I bought it as a retirement/birthday present to myself. Top-off weather all-year round.

Thanks Christina, I try to start threads that will have little, or no propensity, for flame fests, or pissing contests, so I appreciate the compliment.

I simply loved the way it drove and the power it had. It's only got better with more power. Since we had the supercharger installed it's like a whole new car.

Growing up, I used to watch Route 66, and always dreamed of have a corvette "someday". Last fall, my Someday finally came, and I bought one. I am really enjoying it.

I don't know about anyone else, but I personally find your avatar offensive.

I'm sure you could express your views in a less inflammatory, and more appropriate way.

Think about it.

Love the looks. Love the torque. Love the sound. Love how they drive and perform. Love the fact they are easy to maintain and are reliable/durable.

I just can't say all those things about any other car with equal or better performance.

Simple as that.

I've been a mustang guy for 22 years, after hitting a certain age i felt like a kid in a mustang. Not to put mustangs down. The new shelby is a bad *** car. But i felt like i needed something a little more classier

Got sick of Porsche after owning many since the 70's. Drove a C6 and it was all over. Can't wait to get my next one.

When I was very young I liked the C2 coupe ('64>67) and then about the time I came of age to drive I got to actually get close to the '71 C3 and liked them. I didn't care all that much for the C4 or C5 but the C6 really reminded me a lot of the C3 in some ways.
Being 5' 14" makes it difficult to find a vehicle I fit in that I actually like and the C6 is one of the few sports cars I fit in.
After a rotten marriage and nasty divorce I gifted myself a '13 GS and in slightly over a year have close to 10k miles on it.
It's fun to drive just about anywhere that it has enough ground clearance to go and is comfortable on trips as well as having enough trunk space for my bicycle.
It's pretty much my ideal car at this time.
I think I did okay for my first Corvette.

Unless something happens to change my mind it's a keeper.
