Um... I don't think that will do the trick on the newer cars. The codes should still be in memory and if the "problem" isn't corrected that caused the codes, the light will come back on.
On 2nd thought, you might get the history out of there with a battery unplug but the light will come back if the problem persists.

My vette is a 08/Z51.Yesterday my battery was DEAD,so i disconnected the battery to clean the posts,then my Friend gave me a jump & the engine light came on,i shut it off & restarted it & the light went away & today all is good i guess?Thanks for your input..
