Hi Everyone,

On startup I am getting a buzz that lasts for a minute or two. It seems to be coming from the center part of the dash, maybe closer to where the windshield starts.

My car is a 3lt with the hud/nav combo. I ran into another thread with a member having the same issue, but he stated he was living with it. Anyone familiar w/ this one?

The two most common causes of buzziness in C6 dashes:

1. Cracked cowl (on the _outside_ of the windshield).

2. Noisy air temp sensor. Cover little grill on dash (near ignition switch) with your fingers and see if it gets quieter.

I've heard on this forum that it was NAV disk doing it's thing..Normal in my 08/Z51-3LT..

With the infamous "dash buzz" usually cooler weather and a brisk speed will be in the works for the buzz to occur. The prior mentioned buzz will not appear at immediate start up whilst sitting still, 70 mph plus is usually experienced for the cowl to start vibrating.

It can be very loud at high speed. The temp fan is real quit hence easily heard at start up.

Otherwise something else, but these two are the most prevalent in the described situation.

I have no experience personally or through reading about a 'buzzing" Nav.

Thankfully, the nav is the last thing I want in the car.

Hard to teach me new tricks.

The vent for defrost buzzes on every C6 Corvette at some point in time...On my 13 its when its hot in direct sunlight...On my 07 it was when it was cold.

Speaking about that center speaker: Is there a easy way to disconnect that bitch without tearing the dash apart??

Very, the center plastic piece just pops up and then you'll just need to use a 7mm to remove the screws that hold the speaker in. Once those are out you can squeeze the clamp that connects the speaker and done!

Thanks for the help so far everyone.

It did start when it was cold, but its definately not at speed. I noticed the buzzing before I made it to the end of the driveway.

I am going to try covering the air temp sensor and popping the DVD out. It doesn't sound like a disk drive sound to me though.

Regarding the cowl, where do these normally crack at? Right in the middle? closer to the window or engine bay?

Common things being common, I predict this will be a noisy air sensor. I've read lots of threads about this problem alone.

Andrew6, thanks for the tip on the center speaker. I have the Bose system... does that change anything in terms of removal? What would you recommend replacing it with?

Since you say it's on startup only, I am going to guess the Mode Door for the HVAC system. Its stepper motors zero on startup but when they go bad, they stop the motor from working. The Mode Door is a rolled up piece of plastic with slots for air flow. If you are noticing that air is coming out of the vents in the wrong spots then that's most likely the issue. It's not cheap to fix, it requires removing the dash.

My C6 makes all sort of noises. When you open the door, after you shut down something runs. Anyway, as long as everything works my solution is, just live with it.

My '08 makes a buzzing noise at around 70 mph+. I usually just crank up some Waylon Jennings to drown out the noise.

My 2008 just started doing the same thing as the weather changed here in NJ. Upon start up, before even putting it in gear, I get a buzz that sounds like it's coming from behind instrument cluster. Sounds very similar to the ignition noise you hear on a cheap radio. It doesn't seem to change in frequency or volume no matter what speed I'm driving or road conditions. Once the car warms up, the noise is gone. I'll give the suggestions a try.
