Default C6 Fuel Door Problem (Actuator not fully expanding)

I too got the plague of this problem today. Door does shut, but its a matter of time before I know it will give up. I tried lubing and manipulating the fuel door manual control, but no go. I did hear about people adding a spring to the device and I am wondering how did you guys install this. If not the dealer is charging 139+tax for a replacement.

I heard it can be had for 80 bucks.

I saw someone on ebay selling it for 105 shipped.

Ideas?

I followed the link I posted to the T. I tried the easy method but soon noticed that I lost the apartus behind the fuel tank cap... So I had to remove the wheel and the inner sidewall of the wheel well. It was a piece of cake. The spring I used from the Home Depot assortment pack was the 1 in. long (slightly cone shaped spring) I had to cut it before installing, but it worked! My gas lid is strong as heck!...

I dont have to buy a $140 part. WOOO HOO!

Btw the spring on mine was fine. It just lost its tensile strength over time. Understandable since the car is 9 years old.

All in all it took 2 hours, including spring purchase time from Home Depot.

Personally, I'd just replace the actuator.

There is NOTHING wrong with the magnetic assembly in the trunk. Now it has a nice firm CLICK when I close the fuel door.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but my fuel filler door is flapping in the breeze so I did a search. Heading to Home Depot for a spring kit.

Great information here!
