Any issues with 2005 models?
Hi! I'm looking for a C6 to buy. Were there any issues with the first year C6 models built that I should be aware of? Sometimes I hear about staying away from first year models due to issues that get fixed in later year models. I'm debating if I should buy an 05 or an 06. I appreciate any inputs. Thanks!!

Yes there were issues with the 2005 as there are with the C7, but lets face it, the car is 9 years old now that the C7 is out and any of the new car blues are surely been taken care of by now. What you need to check on, is the maintenance history on the car if you can.
If you can get the VIN, see if your local dealer will run it for you and see what issue if an have come up on it either under warranty or after the warranty was up. Look for leaks at the oil pan, differential and transmission. Just your normal do diligent.

Dead battery syndrome was an issue.

Only thing to consider, if you are looking at an automatic, is the 2005 still had the old A4 non-paddle shift tranny. That said, my 2005 with the A4 was one of the most trouble free, reliable cars I ever owned over the 8 years I had it.

Retired & lovin' it!
I've had my '05 since new & never had any problems. Just remember that with the MN6 tranny, you need to be in Reverse when shutting down in order to insure all electrics are 'off' & battery doesn't run down. Couple of other minor maintenance issues.....'clunking' from rear when turning at low speed can be cured either by replacement & re-torqueing of axle nuts (easy DIY) or replacement of differential fluid with later fluid containing proper friction modifier (GM p/n 88862624)....another easy DIY job. And if it's a Z51, there are grease fitting on the link ends in the rear that need a shot of grease whenever you do an oil change.

Loved my 05 - well, for the first 29K miles, that is. Then - magnetic shocks went bad, then brake lockup while moving - scary! ("fixed" by dealer, but I lost faith in it). So, traded for a new one.

I have an 05 and have never heard of this.
To the OP, I have had mine for a year now it has 60,000 miles on it and I have had no issues with it. Like other people have said, I assumed that the 05 issues were fixed a long time ago.

Bought mine new. Water pump went out at 13,000 miles. Nine years and 40,000 miles. No other issues. There were a few recalls, painted roof separation' rear brake line leaking, gas cap. If you find a good '05' these should be fixed.

Mine had the crank pulley bolt replaced, the service active handling checked (ok) replaced both rear axel nuts and the top is being painted now. Once I get the top back, all recalls will be taken care of.

I bought my '05 AT vert new, and it now has 180,000+ mi. on it. 8+yrs.
It's had its share of issues, but what car that has a boatload of miles on it doesn't?
The SAH has been "fixed" 3x (two under warranty) Wrapped the first two times, and this last time clipped. Hopefully that will be a more permanent fix.
The back end was replaced (under warranty) due to grinding/clunking noise. It probably didn't really need it, but this was fairly early on, before people realized that it was just that way.
The water pump failed (under warranty) and it has been good since.
The main fuse box needed replacing (headlights failed when warm).
It has had various "Ghosts in the Machine," but that was early on, none in the last ~100k.
It developed a lifter issue last year, and we were going to wait till it failed (it never showed any signs of getting worse), but it was embarrassing to sit at a light and listen to it, so when the AC went out and a few minor (age-related things) cropped up, we decided to replace the engine with an LS3 and a beefier radiator rather than get rid of it, because over all, we really like this car. We had everything taken care of all at once this summer. We have been very happy since.

p.s. I think, as others have said, unless you buy a garage queen, that has never been driven, whatever problems, unique to the '05, it might have had, will have already been fixed.

I purchased my 05 back in March of this year at 29,500 miles, now has 33,400. Only issue I had was the negative battery cable clamp wouldn't stay tight, so would get the DIC message of "service column lock", fixed the clamp to stay tight and no further issues. All previous recalls were performed. Changed coolant, rear differential and brake fluids due to age, not miles, and drives great!
