Dex-Cool is made by many different manufacturers. Prestone is probably the easiest to find, but Havoline, Zerex, and parts store house brands are also out there.

I would not replace the t-stat as part of the coolant flush - if it isn't giving you trouble leave it alone.

Your stock thermostat is/was 187*.
Sounds like your new water pump came with a 195* stat with it.

Stats have the opening temps inscribed on them.

I always test a stat in a pot of water bringing it to a boil gradually. I watch the temp and note when it Starts to open using a meat thermometer.

I don't know why they would put in something different since they are the dealership and usually replace with part of same rating unless there is some improvement on new part.
Thus far car runs mostly in the 196-198. Sometimes it still goes down to 192.

Since the temp sensor is in the head on the opposite side of the t-stat, it's normal to see DIC readings about 10* higher than the t-stat.

I had my Chev truck done. They hooked it up to a machine which extracted the old fluid, flushed the system and added new fluid? I take no one has tried this or they don't like the method. My 06 has 43k miles and was thinking about getting it done in the spring.

If it's like one of the machines I've seen they actually recycle the coolant. It goes through some kind of filtering process, they replace the additive package, and then pump it back in. Unless they were using the Airlift system, which after draining the coolant it creates a vacuum in the cooling system that then sucks new coolant in.

I checked at the garage, their machine is a vacuum set up, evacuates the coolant and pumps a cleaning solution in the evacuates it and pumps in new coolant approx 12 qts dependent on the car.

Strange dealership just put my car up in the air and drained fluid then added back anti-freeze and water and got out any air bubbles. No machine involved.

I have always questioned those "machines". I'm wondering how they can spend the money for the machine and make it back considering the minimal labor and time involved - unless their charging $150 or more for the service (not including parts). "Smoke and mirrors"? who knows.....

That's the official way to do it, so it must work. We did it twice on our car, with a drive in between, to get more of the old coolant out.
Also used distilled water, recommended by the lab that tested the old coolant.

I know if that is so the case it is easier to just do this yourself since this is very easy to do. I believe they make the car face forward for gravity to get most of the fluid out.

Why aren't you having the cooling system professionally flushed? My shop uses a BG coolant flush machine.

I always change the coolant in all my cars and trucks myself. Nobody touches my cars but me.
Pick up a couple gallons of Zerex Dexcool and several gallons of distilled water for the vette.
Drain, add water, run, drain. Do it Two times.
Add Zerex Dexcool, finish it up with distilled water. Simple.
Costs me less than $30. and know it's done right.

Hey rebel, what temps is your car running now? I just changed to zerex too and with a stock stat I'm running 203 steady, 208 when stopped and once in a while around 198 at highway speeds, but this is with around 40 degree cold weather... I thought I would get those numbers in the summer, not now...

203 cruising temp is higher than my car ever ran. With the stock stat it was always around 192-196* but never over.

Did your car run these temps before coolant change? Sounds like that there may be some "air" in your cooling system. Possible?

Change the stat? Some new stats are 195*. Stock is 187*.

Good luck

that's what i thought. I did change stats from a 160 and pretty sure it is a 186 now, maybe air in system. I only changed what came out once, so maybe ill change it again to get more old out and make sure no air... thanks!!
