Well, I had been talking about replacing my 427, and this week I did it. A close friend sold me his low-mileage, 3ZR ZR1.
Eight years ago I took some pictures of this ZR1, posted them on our social media hub at work, and ended up talking to this girl, who was very much into Corvettes. We've now been married for 4 years, and the ZR1 has finally come home.
It's been emotional, Gentlemen.

It's just the equipment group, much like how we have the 1SA, 1SB and 1SC for the 427s. The ZR1 came either as a base 1ZR car, or a loaded 3ZR; nav, leather wrapped dash, heated seats, adjustable everything, and so on. Basically, the 3ZR package is equivalent to the 1SC package.
..and it's a 2010; I've already replaced the old style interior pieces with the later model year pieces.

Would enjoy hearing your impressions going from the 427 to ZR1.

It feels tighter, much tighter. With it being a coupe, you can feel the increase in rigidity, but the suspension is also noticeably firmer. The Performance Traction Management is also interesting, and I'm looking forward to feeling it out on the track. That said, it's now obvious what GM did when they said they made the 427 more suited for cruising. The 427 is a better car for road trips and adventure drives.
Secondly, the power; obviously there should be a difference going from the LS7 and LS9, but it's more pronounced than I thought. Torque delivery is more immediate due to the nature of the supercharger. It's intoxicating.
Thirdly, the interior is less intimate. As much as I miss dropping the convertible top, the hatch does have the advantage of making the interior feel more open, and, of course, it's more practical.
All in all, I feel confident in saying that GM achieved exactly what they set out to do with the 427; it's a hell of a car. I wish I could have kept both, but I don't regret upgrading.
