I just installed these new billet aluminum hood hinges on my '06 Z06. I think they do look way better than OEM . I purchased them from Sac City Corvettes, they are a forum vendor.
Ummm, WOW that is a lot of Chrome! I guess you like to look at yourself when you open your hood LOL. That looks great, must be a pain in the butt to clean. Those hinges, do they happen to be lighter than Factory?

Thank you actually there's only two pieces of chrome in there, the rest is all stainless. I believe the vendor say's they are a 1/2 pound lighter.
Nice setup! I'm looking for hinges that are actually stronger than the OEM ones as I have an aftermarket hood that's heavier. How would you compare the two?

Since mine is a factory hood I'm not sure if I can tell you if they could handle your heavier hood. I would say yes since they are thicker than the factory hinges. Call the manufacturer sac city corvettes I'm sure they would have that info.
$600 for some shiny pieces of aluminum that probably cost someone $20 to mill and $20 to plate? They look pretty sick.. I just can't believe the markup some of these vendors have with stuff on this site/ in general.

If people pay for it, then why not set the market high? Free trade economy. If it's too high, don't pay it. (Though I completely agree that the part probably cost 80-120 to produce with overhead)
OP,
Very interesting engine bay you have there. Who did the hood liner art?

I think your way way off on how much that material cost. I guess the manufacturer got that CNC machine for free that produced that part.
You said it cost you ~$600! By that logic, a sewing needle should be $100 because of the tooling needed to make it, not $1 for 10
So lets see, they probably make sewing needles by the 10's of millions at a time. These billet aluminum hood hinges are probably made a few dozen at a time as needed by sales. So your logic or lack there of doesn't hold water.... again!

Ok your up
I will buy your first set of billet hood hinges for $80.00
twice what it cost you to make them, they need to look
and function like the sac city hinges - deal?
