Default How often do you clay bar your car?

Just wondering how often this should be done. I was told once a year when I picked my 05 up.

If it's garage kept and well managed you may never have to.

Have a 09 and have never done a clay bar. Don't even know what that is. Just use a major brand of wax twice a year. To each his own, you know.

so basically in your opinion, just a good washing and a fresh coat of a good wax will be fine? I usually do the waxing twice a year.

I have an 07 and I clay it about once a year and found it makes a huge difference in how slick the paint feels. Follow it with a polish, sealant/glaze then wax it. my car spends a lot of time outside do after every wash I use a quick detailer and apply a fresh coat of wax every couple of months.

Clay removes contaminates that could damage your paint if sealed in with wax. I would never wax with out removing the old wax and clay baring.

never....

I use my porter cable as for me it cleans and corrects paint at the same time. Usually once per year then Rejex. I Rejex it three times per year It gets dusted and I use detail every day I drive it as well as well.

Never again. Did this to my previous vette. Clay bar picked up a tiny spec of something and scratched the clear coat. Too paranoid to ever use one again.

The easy way to tell is run the back of your hand on the body in different locations....if you feel any bumps or roughness on your hand then maybe a claybar is in order....I bought mine used and clay bar'd her just so i could start the paint treatment out brand new....after the clay bar, i washed her with dawn dish soap to remove any old wax then i started with a polish followed by a good carnuba and repeat the carnuba twice a year.....I should never have to clay bar again.....just my technique, I am sure there are a thousand different ways to get the same result.

I clay once a year when I do the Springtime Rejex application or anytime there is overspray or other industrial crap that gets on the car that doesn't come off in the wash. I have a DD that gets parked in some harsh places quite often. I bought it to go, not to show, so it gets treated accordingly.

interesting since i have never clayd the car other than the parts that are covered with clear bra. the installers did clay the areas they were covering with the clear bra, then detailed and then covered it. so in this instance, i'm only doing a clay bar on the areas not covered with clear bra correct?

When the paint seems rough. I did mine 3 years ago (kept outdoors in California under a noah cover) and it is still sleek and smooth. I use Adams Detail spray daily, I love it to look glowing shiny. On my old C5, I did it once every year or so.

The paint on the Vette is terrific quality, I have to clay bar my wife's Chrysler Sebring every year.

Feel the surface with your hand,if it's not smooth as a baby's butt, get the clay bar out.

My 08 is garage kept so I have never done this

I have an 04 Dodge truck that needs a very good cleaning, waxing and this spring I am going to take a day and clay bar it to learn what I am doing

Rather see results on my truck or wife's Trailblazer first before I "learn" on the Vette

I have clayed mine and hate doing it, I now use the porter cable instead also, much easier.

Once and it does make a difference. The test or at least one of them is to place your hand in a sandwich bag and lighly run it over the paint. If it grabs and is rough you need to clay bar it.
If you do clay bar it, first wash it, clay bar, polish, than wax or sealant of your choice.
