Default Look for opinions...

Hello everyone,

So I am looking for some opinions about wheels, I have been doing research for awhile and this is pretty much were I am at.

My car = 2008 z51, no wide body, machine silver, tints, black halo
(Picture attached)
I do like my chrome gumbys might keep them on the side (not sure yet)
Mainly street driver with few track days thrown in for fun

-My favorite look on corvettes are the Z06 style wheels. Now I know I have a couple of options in that area, but I am running into problems everyday.
-Factory reproductions look pretty good, and so far the closest to the Z06 look (black gloss or comp grey). However, I am thinking I the future I will want to install a big brake kit.
-So I started looking at the Ace Slicks, they are okay... but I feel like there is something off and they wont look that great. I know lug nuts are in different location and spokes are a little different, but I think what sticks out the most is that I really don't like the center caps. They make the wheels look old (really would like to see them in person on a c6) . I might consider just not putting the caps on an seeing how they look.
-Then I found out about Cray's New Brickyard wheels, and I think I like them even though we cant get them yet. However, like other Cray wheels I feel like they are going to weigh a lot for aftermarket wheels. I don't mind if the wheels are a little more weight than stock, I just don't want a lot.
-I also am a little interested in tsw nurburgring wheels, but I am thinking too many spokes for my taste.
- I love the D2FORGED CV3-LP Wheels but afraid to see the price on them.
-I have found other wheels but most of them are too expensive for my price point.

So in short my preferred requirements are:

- Front 18x9.5 or 18x9
- Rear 19x11 or 19X10.5
- Fit Big Brake Kit
- Similar to Z06 stlye
- Color dark grey or black gloss (i found ace slicks for sale in black gloss not hyperblack or chrome)
- price under 1500 for set

So I would love to hear opinions, or if there are wheels I don't know about for a good price.

Have you considered having your gumbys powder coated?

If your current wheels are factory GM gumbys, they are better quality than any "inexpensive" aftermarket wheels in your price range.

I also believe they are one of the few "narrow" body wheels that will clear big brakes by adding spacers.

As seen in this pic (not my car):

- I did, I like them but not in love with them, I think they have too many spokes. The Panorama are okay too. They are still an option. I wish they made the Mirabeau for the vettes.

- Like those wish they had a little wider rear option.

- Thought about powder coating and that picture makes them look great, but I also think they are widen in that pic.

- I have heard mixed reviews about adding spacers.

I know you said you didn't like too many spokes but I love the way the ZR1's look on my Machine Silver narrow body car. The wheels are comp gray I believe.

I'm also not a big fan of spacers ... But

I believe you only need a 1/4 inch spacer to clear Z06 brake calipers with gumbys

Gumbys are forged and fairly light weight ... I considered running them on my own car for those reasons

With a quality hubcentric 1/4 spacer with extended thread lugs... Z06 brake calipers will fit and should still be safe to track the car

You might want to check out this thread:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...by-wheels.html

You could even plasti dip your gumbys (black or gray) to see if you like it before spending the money for powder coat (plasti dip is removable) .... plus the money you'll save by keeping your gumbys will go a long way to help pay for big brakes

- 08z51m6Ls3

I have mixed feelings on zr1 wheels, kind of feel like they only belong on the zr1. but they do look good on your vette

- v8rx7com

i like that option, however i still want to see if I can get a different set of black wider wheels and have my chrome gumbys on the side so I always can switch around

Ace Slick Z06 style wheels are nice. One inch wider than stock, both front and back (18x9.5 front & 19x11 rear) and they clear Z06 brakes just fine. Also not that expensive and come in chrome or what they call 'hyper black' (really a silver look).

-ncvette_1FUNRIDE

I have have been considering the ace slicks for a while, but whats bugs me a little about them are the weight

Hyperblack 18" front wheel: 27 lbs.
Hyperblack 19" rear wheel: 35 lbs.

Chrome 18" front wheel: 28 lbs.
Chrome 19" rear wheel: 36 lbs.

(So I have heard)

, and (being picky) not crazy about the center caps, but they are the closest to the style I like for the price.

- okie08vette

They are nice and different but I am looking to have the option of big brakes in the future

Thanks, the big brake thing does change things. I just noticed the pic's I posted were when I was trying to decide to go with the silver or black center caps, notice the difference? Good luck with your serach.
