Got a chance to line up with a GT-R...

Lots of speculation about what's fastest, but this Laguna Seca fast list ends the debate with the Nissan GTR in 15th place... well below the 5th place C6 Z06's 1:34 time;
- from Car & Driver;
"Ah, the Corvette. No car (save the Cayman R) generated more controversy at this year's (2011) Best Driver's Car, and no car will generate more controversary once you commenters take your gloves off. Let's get this out of the way right now: The Z06 decimated the competition around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The devilish Chevrolet, which showed up with 666 miles on the odometer, was more than a second faster around the track than the second-place Ferrari 458 Italia, and faster still than every other contender. No car was even close to the time laid down by the LS7-engined monster, despite the fact that the Fezza, the Lexus LFA, the Audi R8 GT, the Mercedes, and the Nissan GTR all packed more horsepower."

Fast straight line racing is great but Leguna is where its at..

Yeah this one was brand new, so it was pushing 545? I think so anyway. The older ones were 480hp, so I'd give the advantage to the Z06 as well there.

I like the story. Definitely prefer the Vette looks over GTR any day, but I respect the GTR for what it is.
If everyone ran only against cars they knew they could beat, there wouldn't be any stories. Even if you "know" you're going to lose, it still gives you a little rush and is good fun. Plus the Vette needs a good sprint here and there...

2014 stock GTR's put down 440 on my AWD dyno. A Z06 C6 with headers should be a good run. Now with a tune and midpipe the GTR can put down 520. Either way its all in good fun. Its not like either one of them missed a meal due to losing the race.
Congrats on being able to run them and keep up the good work.

Two problems I have with the Seca list, and that is the same for the Nurburg times, being that is does not state if such lap times where flying laps, or from a dead start instead.
As for the second, Seca, like the Nurburg, are both F-1 high speed courses, and will always favor high speed cars; where the slowest turn is still in the 60+mph range.
Truth is, for something that has plates, a better track for time testing would be the Monico GP course, since it has very tight low gear sections to force you into to low gears, as well as enough high speed sections as well.

Ummmm, that's what you get racing an AWD car from dig. Unless you are on DRs and set up for the track you will get toasted most of the time. I learned that lesson a long time ago. I peeled the paint off a 2012 last summer but there was no way I was going from a stop.

bet I had more fun than you did though...

AWD cars can frustrate you. I remember having an '81 Trans Am with a Chevy 350, running an AWD Talon TSi on the street - he'd take off from a dig, and I'd just spin. And it'd just **** me off

Great Posts - one thing to keep in mind though is that the corvette was never built to be a 1/4 mile track car. Its obvious from the Laguna Seca list, there is a clear difference between 1/4 mile racing and road track racing.
Congrats to ProfessorDeath and others for providing some entertainment and fun in this thread.

Did I miss something? I posted a YouTube on this thread that shows me crushing a modified GTR from a dead stop with a naturally aspirated ls3 416 and I ran a 1/4 mile not 1/8. Is the GTR suppose to be impressive? If we would have raced 1/8 mile I would have made him look stupid.

You must be a gluten for punishment! Why even bother to go up against him? That's like a jogger going up against a World Class Sprinter in the 100 yard dash! You know you're going to get your jock handed to you. The GT-R is a $100k sports car! It better be faster than a production Vette! That guy had nothing to loose by racing you and he knew it. I had a 370Z and though its not a GT-R, the looks are similar but the power not so much! With my 370Z, I once went head to head with a 5.0 and he had my lunch which was stupid of me to even think the Z had anything over a 5.0. I still remember how crappy I felt after that. Lesson learned! I would take the overall package of what the Vette has to offer any day over a GT-R including looks and interior and I'll still have enough money left for groceries!

Simply not true...... (well maybe in YOUR OPINION)
You are sounding like many of the GT-R driving crowd.. Id10T5 with comments like that.

You cant run a big hp AWD car from a dig on the STREET and expect to win. Its like bringing a knife to a gunfight. You have to do rolling starts to level the playing field.
The GT-R has Launch control and AWD, the owners don't even have to be good drivers. I wont knock the looks or the car, it is a monster and I can appreciate the car for what it is a 4000 pound grand touring car. Very high tech and very driver friendly. (read disconnected)
The C-6 was built from the factory to be a road course monster, not at Drag strip dominator. It can be built to be one, but it shines on tracks with turns.
If you have ever done a track day, at Lime rock, Laguna, Road Atlanta hell any track you know how much weight plays into lap times, heavy cars eat tires, and brakes up. You have to get on the brakes sooner than a lighter car does. The lap times above show Randy doing a couple of hot laps for time, let him do 20 laps and see what the 4000 pound cars times are when the tires are toast and the brakes are fading, the 1:36s will be closer to 1:40s.
That being said, last year I did three pulls from 60mph against a GT-R that had been Flashed and dragged his *** by a lot, he followed me off the exit pissed off, I kept telling him it was a stock 6.0 liter. He called BS, He said he had never had a car pull on him that bad. He also said he had to lift at a (certain speed) because he had front wheel bearing (something or that effect) going bad. A lot of fun.
