It depends what you're trying to do with it, but generally I'd just use the plasti-dip spray can that they sell at home depot/lowe's etc.

I saw a video on doing the entire car and it was a kit, with the PlastiDip and the spray gun. Not sure how well it would come out if you did the whole car with just the rattle cans,

I tried doing my roof with just the cans and it came out pretty bad; you could see the spray and it tried too fast and ended up looking almost fuzzy. I'd definitely go with the spray gun kit if you are doing more than wheels (or get it wrapped).

I did my wheels with the rattle cans and they came out perfectly however.

Who uses just the can? For smaller pieces like trim, badges, wheels, etc.

who uses a sprayer? Use a sprayer for the whole car.

what do you think is the best way to apply it? Like any paint work, PREP it well.

I did a test spray with the gun provided in the DipYourCar kit and Matte Clear. It came out alright but have since pulled it off. Plan on respraying in the future but I would suggest to do it in a professional paint booth. Pics attached:

I used a rattle cans myself, so it depends on how much you want to do. For small projects, say half a body panel in area or less, a couple rattle cans will work. Anything larger, I would get a gun and order half a gallon or more.

The air gun will be the best way to apply it, regardless. It gives you more control over the application of the plasti-dip.
