I can move the shifter from park to s very smooth but nothing engages
the tranny. this is a c6A 07 Vert with 18k plus miles I have an Extended warranty will have it towed on Monday to dealer I am a light
weight mechanic but it seems as if a linkage or something is broke or
came loose. any ideas? will post results as soon I get something

I think you are on the right track, a linkage issue with out removing the shifter boot it will be hard to troubleshoot. Since you have warranty coverage let the dealer check it out.
the shifter cable cable was the problem. my extended warranty did not
cover it. total cost to replace it was $596.15 at the dealer, cable cost
64.64 the rest was labor and taxes, now just happy to be back on the road. I never had a shift cable replaced before is this a common
problem for some cars? thanks for any info.

I had a clip fall out in the shifter mechanism that connected the cable to the shifter, under the boot. I could still shifit into gear but the shifter position did not match the gear, the transmission was in. Mine was replaced under warranty.

I had the same thing on my 2006 coupe. I was charged just over 700.00 at my local chevy dealer.
