Default Lexan top cracked (UPDATE: 07-29-14)

(updated story on Page 2 of this thread) I have searched for other threads but can only find tops with spider webbing. The dealership has said not under warranty. The vette is going into the shop on Tuesday for another warranty item and will be talking to the manager about the top. 2013 GS 32,000 miles. I have a feeling it is going to be a long day of excuses and no's.

And why did he say it's not under warranty?

Do you know how it happened?
Looks like impact damage to me - the triangle in the middle is the point of impact

I'm curious also: how did it happen? It didn't just buckle by itself, did it? Or maybe it did, but I'm just asking.

If the dealer won't do anything for you, have you tried to get it replaced under your auto glass insurance?
Looks to me like a rock from a passing dump truck hit your top
Worse case is it may be covered by your comprehensive insurance, but you have to pay the deductible. Still cheaper if you have to buy a new top.

Please let us know the results whatever happens.

Thanks

My Transparent Top had the same crack, but that was after a little old lady in a Pontiac G6 GT decided that both of our vehicles could occupy the same space at the same time. My front passenger hit her passenger rear. I found the crack on the passenger side of the top when I was detailing it a week after I got her back. It was replaced by her insurance company.

Mine has about a 1 inch crack on passenger right behind the pillar.. Not covered under gmpp... Called gm they opened a case for it. There was a bulletin for cracking due to manufacture defect.. The crack is in the lexan and you can't feel it. The dealer called me Friday and said to bring it in again and we will see what they say. My car is a 10 GS with 6300 miles. it is caused from manufacturer gm should cover it if not it is b.s.

Not sure how it happened just found it the other day while washing the car. I been fighting the flex noise on the inside. Trying out the o-ring solution to stop the noise has helped a little. I am thinking it was from twisting but couldn't find any post about it. I will have to go take a closer look...since it has be suggested of an impact. If I can find or they suggest (reasonable doubt) it was an impact then its on me. If it is from twisting I think it should be under warranty. Very hard to get a good picture since it just a reflection. Most of the posts I have found on spider webbing seems to be back from 2010 and seems to be from window cleaners. I will have some idea about it in a couple of days. I was hoping to find some cracks similar to what I have. Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions and guidance.

Mine is somewhat like yours you can only see it in the light and I noticed it when I was wiping my car down for a show... The bulletin was revised by gm to include cars up to 2012 I will pm you the bulletin number later on tonight or tomorrow it was on a pervious thread.

If it is impact damage it might be covered under your comprehensive insurance coverage - like a rock hitting your windshield- in this case it may have hit the roof

Been fighting the flex noise for a while? Maybe that's why the top cracked. You twisted the top when you forced one corner too high?

Why should GM replace the top when you have been "adjusting" it?

The only adjusting is putting the little O-rings on the front probes. The top comes off and on very easy. From what I have read in past posts: I didn't need to add the e-clips since GM changed the design on the top a little adding a bigger roller on the top latches. Don't get me wrong I am not here to get a free top if it was an impact or my fault. That is why I posted a couple of pictures to see what people on the forum think about it and if anyone had a similar looking crack on their top. If it is from the result of the top twisting that caused the crack....how was I to prevent that from happening?

My 2010 GS had the same issue on the passenger side. It was replaced under warranty. I was told it's more common than everyone thinks.
I didn't get a reason why it cracked though.

The top that cracked never once had the popping noise. However the replacement top pops every once in a while.

No, the crack is not long enough. Only because of the trim and support/plastic cover along the inside edge.

Here is a close up picture I took today. The edges are offset from one other hard to see in the picture and by the eye. It can be felt rubbing over the crack from the front of the car to the back. I was trying to see if it was a rock (as suggested) that might have hit it. I would have thought it would have left an impact crater or some kind of indent but I don't see that.

Was your car covered under warranty at the time they replaced it?
