Default Front Lic plate removal??

Hi

If you buy a vette from a State that requires a front Lic plate while your state doesn't require it what is the fix if any?

That front plate holder is butt ugly!

Thanks

Alan

If you are talking C6, I would have a pro do it.

A friend removed his and the plate mount messed up his clear coat. He paid $$$$ to have the front buffed out. Looks pretty good now..

Good luck, 2k

#1 - find out if the plate holder was mounted with screws. Yes, some dealers and even some owners drilled holes and mounted that abomination with screws!

If it is mounted with screws negotiate the cost of a full, painted front fascia.

Mine was mounted with double round sided tape pads. I just squirt some Goo Gone around the pads and let it soak into the glue. In a couple minutes it came right off.

Mine was attached with some sticky pads. Pulled right off and some gunk remover for the leftover residue.

Unfortunately mine is screwed, therefore I am screwed! Got a quote of $580 to fill in holes and repaint.

The price should be no more then $475-$500 max to fill holes and repaint.

My state requires the plates and the dealer screwed them in so I will live with it until I decide I'm up to removing and repairing. I will say that I am so used to it now that I don't even notice it anymore.

But everybody else does...

Aw, c'mon. Live on the wild side!

I've been without a front plate since I've had my Vette and so far, no ticket. Of course that could change the next time I drive anywhere, but so far, so good.

Default Front plate

When we bought our '13 GS the lot boy was heading towards our car with a drill! I bolted out of the salesman's office and told the kid, "Don't you dare put that front plate on"! He said, "My boss told me to install the plate on your car". I said, "Give me the drill, I'll talk to your boss". As I left the spot where the car was sitting, I was shaking with anger! Our state (Ill.) requires a front plate, but I'll make my own bracket so there will be no marks/holes on the front fascia.

I was going to remove the plate and that's when I discovered the screws (dang!). I can probably repair it myself. It's just a matter of deciding when it is going to move to the top of the priority list. The less I notice it, the further it falls on the list

Top-Flite removable bracket for GS & ZO6. Mounts to the top of the "mouth" with really powerful, double-sided tape. Then the plate bracket is attached to that with two wing-nuts. Very simple installation.

We bought our `10 GS from a dealer in Indiana and two things I told the salesman every time we talked, "Do NOT put the GM plate mount on the car" and Do NOT put one of your dealership logos anywhere on the car".

mine was stuck on with 3 sticky pads - pulled the damn thing right off and cleaned up the residue with WD40 and polish, however, since mine was on the car for many years the bottom of the holder has left a line in the bumper that is barely noticeable
