Are the cig lighters hot when car is off? I noticed my GPS plugged stays on when I shut off car. I used both cig lighters and it seems they are both hot all the time. Does it time out after some time and power off?

The lighter should not be hot after lockup. The one in the console stays hot after lockup.

At least in the 2008 and 2012 models, both the cigarette lighter and the accessory outlet in the console remain hot all the time. They even caution you in the manual about leaving things plugged in.

Guess I should have checked the lighter. I always use the one in the console. Opened the ashtray door yesterday to clean the dust for the first time in 5 years.

Most cars, cig lighters go off when the car goes off except for the corvette. I only noticed because I have new phone charger with a little light on it and saw it always on.

Yes, and I asked the q. re the C7 convertible; only the in-trunk outlet is hot. The other two in the passenger/cabin are now NOT hot when car is off. A bit harder to snake a maintainer line into the trunk than the thru a crack at the top of the window to the lighter/console both of which are hot in my '08.

Cig lighter is always hot on my: 1967 vette, my 1990 454SS truck, my 2012 vette.
Cig lighter is only hot when ign is switched on with my 2013 Subaru Outback.

The battery protection option (CTEK) plugs into the cigarette lighter. I open my passenger side window a little and lay a towel down the glass and on the door so the cord doesn't rub. I leave it plugged in if the car is going to sit for more than two weeks.
The lighter receptacle being hot does not actually equate to it drawing any power. Something has to be plugged in to complete the circuit.

2. To light your cigarette when engine shut off. (No, I don't smoke)
3. Probably saved GM about fifty cents per car.
