Default Radar Detectors

I'm a new owner and would like to ask the forum for suggestions for concealed radar detectors. I would like something other than the common dash mounted unit.

Thanks

I got lucky and the previous owner had a K40 Caliber DL installed in mine. That was a ~1500 dollar unit I believe. Completely hidden. Front and rear detectors. Two small blue lights on the instrument cluster (plus voice or tone if you want) tell you when it's got a hit.

I don't think they make that model any more but K40 does make some pretty kick-*** detectors.

I'm looking to eventually go with a concealed unit too. I'm looking at the Escort version, because I really like my 9500ix, but will watch this thread, for other suggestions too.

The best custom installed radar detector is the Beltronics STiR+. Beltronics and Escort are subsidiaries of the same company. The reason the STiR+ is better than the Escort version is because the STiR+ has more user settings that enable it to be much more sensitive and reactive giving you significantly earlier warnings.

Forget about the K40. It looks nice but it's performance is lacking.

Escort Passport X50/8500. All radar plus laser. Worth its weight in gold. Radar sniffs way out and laser is very sensitive for what is a pencil beam. I, for one, love my brother-in-law who is a cop in Daytona Beach. He just shakes his head.

If they're concealed, where is the unit placed and where is it's 'antennae' placed? An unobstructed view ahead is key for long range detection. Wouldn't want to give up the range with a windshield mount that my V1 provides.

Thanks.

I would love to see how someone has mounted this system into a C6 Vette.

The brain is hidden, I've seen them both inside the engine bay or inside the interior (behind the dash). Sensors are either in front of the front bumper or grill and rear is usually by the license plate.

+1 for the 9500ci, the GPS feature can't be beat. And don't forget the Dashtronix HUD adapter to go with it
