Infuriated with Dealer service department - need advice?
Short version of the story -
All summer I have had discomfort in my driver seat bottom. Found out after a lot of looking the seat foam was torn under the seat and needed to be replaced. Under warranty and the car now has 9800 miles on it.
Brought it into the dealer they took a quick look at it and said we will order a new foam and call you in 2 days.
1.5 weeks later I call them....oh looks like we ordered the wrong part. We will call you in 2 days when we get the new one.
1.5 weeks later I call them and set up a time to come in 7 days later.
The main service guy I was working with said he did not trust his guys with this type of job and would be outsourcing it to a local car interior shop. He had made it sound like they need to remove the entire seat to complete the swap. Said to plan on them having it all day.
I ended up picking the car up at 5pm on my way to work and dropped off my loaner car. My car was parked very close to another vehicle so I was trying to squeeze into the vette without touching the other car. Not thinking I only really paid attention to the feel of the seat. I left a happy and satisfied customer.
This is where everything goes downhill.
20 mins later I am getting out of my car and I see all this-
So I am a little unhappy that my car is now beat up but understanding that **** happens and it can be fixed. Called them from the parking lot and was told to come in tomorrow. went in he looked at it and said come in next week weds (today) and we will take care of it.
This is where I don't know how I left without causing a huge scene in front of 20 people.
Pulled in to the service area. The guy I was working with seen me got up and walked into the back room. Came back a few mins later with someone. Service manager / body shop not really sure. I show him the damage to the 4 trim pieces and all he says to me is "that just from your seat belt" and went on to tell me how their owners vette looks just like that after 1,700 miles every single one he drives. Then said there is no way they did it because they take the seat cover off with the seat in the car. (which is exactly the opposite of what the service guy said) He basically accused me of damaging my car and using this as an excuse to make them fix it.
Now i sure I am not alone here in saying I know every mark, scratch, anything on my vette. I wash it at least twice a week by hand. I had even thoroughly detailed it before dropping it off to them the first time.
I am beyond irritated and don't know who to contact on this issue. I can afford to fix all the damage that I figured to be around $250 outside of the paint chip. but the point is they damaged it while it was in their care. I shouldn't have to.
And to say a seat belt caused this is the most infuriating part. It doesn't even reach there without be pulled down by hand. And its covered by the door.
I don't know about everyone else but I shut my door first then put my seat belt on. and do the opposite on the way out.
Can anyone recommend who to talk to at the dealership and does anyone know the actual steps for changing the seat bottom foam?
I can use all the help I can get here.

Talk to the General Manager or owner of the dealership and call Chevrolet corporate. They're trying to get out of paying for damage they caused. Likely since they outsourced it, it makes it hard for them to bet reimbursed because likely it was their subs that caused the damage.

No way to replace the seat foam with the seat in the car, impossible. Those marks are exactly what you will get if you don't remove the seat carefully. You need to elevate this. I have removed my seat a few times and unfortunately know exactly how those marks got there.

I promise that when you pull the seat out if you don't protect the sill you will scratch it just like in you photos. I am going to look in shop manual but if a sub did they would not have the manual. It's impossible to replace the foam with the seat installed.

Any good interior shop would of put padding etc. to protect any trim from damage, and they would of did it carefully as to not damage anything.
Go to the dealership GM, and state your case...ie: the trim wasn't scratched before I had this latest work done at your shop, or whoever you out sourced it to.
You have a legitimate reason to be pi$$ed
Good Luck...

You need to be a lot more direct with these service guys. Don't take any BS from them. I've literally made a scene at a dealership yelling at the guy for such total disrespect for another persons property. Not my vette but another car. But they paid for all the damage.
I recently had my vette in the shop for a sensor repair Monday. When I got there. I went over the entire car w the service mgr. I made it very clear I better not see a mark on this car. And said who ever drives this car they better be careful of the low c7 spoiler or they'll be buying another one for me.
Got car back n it was fine !
Sometime u need to be very forward w them. If thru don't seem to care. Goto another dealer for Svc.

Up to this point they have been extremely pleasant to deal with. I would have happily purchased my next vette there. This really hurts any chance of that happening. I just want people to take ownership for there mistakes.

I had to remove the seat to replace the foam. Protected the trim with a towel bc the seat rails would've scratched it. I don't see how the could replace it without removing the seat.

Stay on them and if nothing happens escalate the problem every chance you get. You will eventually get it fixed. I have always known the dealers are the weak link in the Corvette ownership chain...sad story and it bothers me because I know it could happen to me. Another Low Life Dealer.

Yes, the few times I have removed C6 seats to install the aftermarket rebuild/support kit I have covered the sill with a folded up quilt wrapped over the sill and tucked under the seat to prevent this. The seat would definitely have to be removed to replace the foam, not sure I would trust anyone at the dealer that told you anything to the contrary......hope you are able to resolve this to your satisfaction and quickly.

Dealership Work
I feel your pain on this and I cringe at the thought of taking my car to a dealership for them to do anything to my car. Years ago before I bought my Corvette I was lazy and I'd take my Lexus SUV to the dealer and have them do the service and rotate the tires. Prior to one trip to the dealer I'd had a flat and a patch put on my left front tire and it had a slow leak due to a sorry job of patching the tire. I got my car back and a few days later I noticed my left front tire was low! I thought immediately how did they rotate my tires (they charged $79.95 to rotate the tires) when the left front tire with the patch was still in the same place it was when I took the car in for service! I got on the phone and let them have it for charging me that much for rotating my tires and they didn't rotate them! Of course they realized I'd caught them charging for work they didn't do and they couldn't stop apologizing and refunded my money. The point is if I hadn't had the tire patch and slow leak in that tire I probably wouldn't have caught what they did and this was a Lexus Dealer. Can you imagine what goes on all the time to people getting service who are paying for work that isn't done or done half a&&. This is just one story and I have others especially at the local Chevy dealer who happens to be one of the largest dealers in the country. I wouldn't trust their service department to work on my red wagon! Sorry for the rant, but reading your story hurts knowing what you are going through and I'd have taken my car in also to get the seat fixed. That's a job I couldn't have done myself.
I bought race ramps and I do all my normal service now (oil changes and tire rotations) just so I don't have to deal with service departments anymore than I have to.
I hope you get satisfaction and your car fixed at their expense.

There is a GM corporate customer service rep that checks in here from time to time, they have resolved issues here before, maybe send them a PM or maybe they will catch this thread.

LOL maybe I can rub out the paint chip, holes in the window trim, and cut marks myself and save some time.........
