Default painless wire jumper for lights

After reading all the things that could go wrong with the chevy dealers on putting in the wire jumper for the lights I was shocked to see not one problem. Took around 45 min. in and out at Hendricks chevy in kc. Also enjoyed another with the same problem talking about cars. We were looking at the new zo6 and its nice but I can't see spending that kind of money if I'm not racing. Anyway it worked out ok with no problems. For some of you that are on the fence as to go or not it was painless.( first time I had my car in the shop also).

Painless or not, I would think you'd want to get it done. Glad you had a nice experience at the dealer. We need more of that!

I am waiting now for my Service Tech to advise the parts have come in
so he can set the appointment. Maybe I am the exception but every time I have needed work I have taken to the dealership where I purchased and have nothing but good experiences.

After posting a DIY fix I think it is best to let the dealer do it. If it only took 45 minutes I can wait. Not crazy about leaving my car with anyone.

I think the difference between deals is experience. Blaisus in Waterbury Connecticut has had as many as 50 (my count) new Corvettes in their lot. I have never had a problem with their service. A local dealer that's closer had one 2014 in their showroom but not until halfway through the model year. They're not bad guys but I don't think it's a coincidence that I have not been as happy with them.

After seeing the great DIY right-up I think that's the route I'll go if in fact it ever fails. I like the idea of fixing the problem at it's root rather than putting a quick jumper around it. I'll leave the letter from GM in the glove box just in case I'm far away from home and it craps out.

More power to you for being able to fix it yourself. I don't even know where it's located let alone try to do it myself.

I don't have the link but basically you have to remove the fuse box in the engine compartment then remove the pressed in mounting screws, all the fuse's and relays then the box comes apart and you can remove the bent wire and replace it. The diy is not clean on how you reroute the wire to prevent it from stressing and breaking a second time. Apparently you can install a second wire on the other side of the fuse box as a back up incase the original does break.
I am going to take mine in I don't want to mess with doing it myself although I believe I could do it just seems like a hassle is all.

I have been looking at this awhile and the general consensus is that the wire was installed and bent at a 90° angle which causes the wire to stress and break. If you look at all the wire routes in the fuse box you see a lot bent just like the suspect wire, leads me to wonder why the original breaks in the first place.

Most likely its due to the constant power draw from the lights being on, these wires do heat up and the laws of physics is heat expands the wire and when it cools in constricts breaking at the bend when it cools (wear and weakening), being that they are on constant, and also the biggest power draw is initial firing of the lights, the wire gauge isnt the appropriate size to compensate for the drawn current and 90 degrees is very stressful to a wire under that stress, and second probably cheap copper.

But thats just an educated guess.

I just got a notice for this on my 10' GS. But it said a few of them are affected. How do I know if mine is one of them?

I am on the fence on this one. No problems with my 07 and I have 143,000 miles. Might have it done when/if the car goes back to the dealer. Car has only been to a dealer 3 times so far. Twice for warranty work and once for a antifreeze change.
