Well my new torch red C7 will be delivered in a few days. I have never driven a manual; outside of a test drive.

I ordered a manual. Here goes nothing.

As an old guy with a bad hip and knees I gave up a manual Roush Stage 3 Stang to get back into a Vette and an A6 was a requirement. Although I can still drive a stick it is just not as much fun anymore. My GS is my daily driver. I know the sports car purist's and the younger crowd cringe at the thought but things change and you have to go with it. At least the paddle shifters are a compromise. I think most drivers can turn more consistent times at the strip with an auto too.

I learned to drive stick on my '08 Z06. Bought it on a Sunday, friend gave me a lesson Sunday evening and then had to get to work on Monday morning.

Manual is definitely more fun, but I can understand the automatic choices due to age, commute, and area of residence.

If you live close by I would come over and drive the car for until you get your shifting skills down pat. I learned to drive a manual on a 1950 ford column shifting many, many years ago. Today I drive my GS with the A6 which I don't mind one bit because I use the shifters 90% of the time.

I broke all my stick shift cars so I decided to buy an auto. 500+ passes later still going strong. I bought the car because I wanted to go fast down the quarter mile so I only had one choice.

Manual's are faster. The C7 is the first Corvette in which the auto trans version is faster than the manual. In all of the other generations, the manual trans is faster.

I wasnt keeping the car stock. Mod for mod the auto is faster. With similar mods the next closest car is almost a second slower down the quarter mile.

It doesn't matter if it's stock or not. Given identical mods on identical cars, the manual trans is faster. Test after test performed by professionals has proven this time and again.

How can that be possible. Im pretty sure automatic cars are faster down the quarter mile in the bolt on c6 list. Unless I was taught wrong in school a mid 10 second pass is faster than a low 11 second pass.

A list of amateur drivers' times. Not professionals.

It's all in the driver. GM and every other car manufacturer use professional drivers for their tests. Tests that, as I said, have proven time and again that manuals are faster. The new auto trans in the C7 is the first exception to this.

Id love to see a 417whp manual corvette run even close to what my car runs. I mean I genuinely would love to see it because that would be the best driver in the world. I dont have hate for manual cars at all. I love them I just got tired of breaking them. But to say a manual car is faster mod for mod down the quarter mile is just not a true statement. There isnt a single manual bolt on c6 in the 10s.

Again in stock form I agree with you to an extent. But after it is modded no.

Again, given identical mods, the manual is still going to be faster in the hands of someone who knows how to use it.

For example, the C6 ZR1 is arguably a modded version of the C6, and the manual trans version is faster than the auto.

Zr1's dont come in auto and I bet if it did and had a converter in it it would go faster.

Sorry, wasn't aware of that. Too bad.

The thousands of tests performed by performance auto manufacturers using professional drivers would disagree with you. Pick any supercharged or turbocharged car, then look at the performance tests.

Again in stock form for the c6 with said "professional" in both a stick and an auto car the stick car will be faster. The auto just cant get out of the hole with the stock converter. But if you put a professional in a stick car with my same comparable mods. Id drag them down the 1320 every time.

You go ahead and believe that. I've heard the same many, many times before. Usually right before I crossed the finish line ahead of those saying it.

There's a reason the NHRA was built on manual trans cars, even before it became part of the rules.

Oh trust me I will keep saying it. I set my car up right and am proud of what it can do. I know what its capable of. And it is not a lie to say a manual c6 ls2/ls3 with the same mods is not going to touch it. I would love to see it but it just isnt going to happen.

You guys should meet on the track ,buy you know how close at that speeds you guys are talking most people 97% don't push these corvettes to that limit .
I had a 2008 Z06 Manual and it was too fast had to trade it for the 63 automatic .
Ran that car in Delaware the roads wouldn't support the speed of the Z06 I would of
never used it to its potential . Had a 63 340 HP 4 speed for 14 years it was faster than the auto you could wind it up and get extra out of it.
