While I agree about average person, 80 in a 25 zone has nothing to do with average owner, or not knowing how to control the car. If someone had been in his way and he was driving a Malibu, it would have taken them both out of this lifetime.

While we're on the subject...some Corvette owners out there are not "car guys" who have driven and worked on muscle cars or owned other classics and sports cars. Some are just first time buyers of a "status symbol" and have no clue how to drive a vehicle with power and rwd.

I have said it more then once, you have to respect these cars. I think there are to many people out there that have never driven a high performance sports car before and the read the articles written by those that test these cars for a living and see the commercials and they believe they stick like glue.
They never hear about the time the driver doing the test may have had to lift or maybe even lost it, but again these are on closed courses plus they are normally using the sticky tires for the better grip.
Prayers to his family.

it wasn't mentioned in the article but the first post said he was the manager of a chevy dealer...... That blows my mind........ you would think he'd be a car guy....not just an ego with a new super car.... maybe he decided to see what the traction control mode button was good for..... the answer is the track......

Sad about the loss of life, but it seems I can always count on Mr. Lord for some inappropriate, or ridiculous statement.

This. If he never owned a Vette before, it takes a while to get used to the power, and handling. That kind of speed, in a 25 mph zone, is foolhardy at any level of driving expertise. Even if he hadn't crashed, those limits are posted for a reason.

"On April 13, 2015 at approximately 7:00 pm, Brian Manning was traveling westbound on Channing Park Road at approximately 80 mph. Manning drove left of center, off the roadway and over a 6-inch curb, shearing off a TECO light pole and an oak tree in his 2015 Chevrolet Corvette. He struck another oak tree. Manning was extricated from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital. He expired at 8:45 pm from his injuries sustained in the crash. "

It all feels so safe until you go a little too far.
I was at a stop light yesterday afternoon. I was reaching into my console to pull out my wallet. I looked up and the traffic was pulling ahead. I quickly set things down and accelerated up to the car ahead of me, squealing the left tire just a little before backing off the throttle a little.
That's the first time I've heard the tires squeal before. I have put my foot into it and heard them both slipping a little, but not the squeel. Maybe it's the first time with these Michelin PS A/S 3's compared to the GY's. I'll put them back on after things warm up again next month.
I've only had the traction control turned off once for a short drive and all was well . . . that time.

What's really sad is that even though the OP has a good message about being safe in powerful cars, he destroys any credibility he might have by framing it with sensationalist comments that he can't back up.

A light pole and two oak trees, score! With sportbikes they are usually younger.

Guys! Who really cares what the actual most dangerous car is? Geez argue on another thread.

The most dangerous car in America is a SMART car...it's basically a garbage compacter! If you get in a wreck, they can just bury you in it...
A Corvette is equipped with a lot of high tech systems ie. active handling, traction control, anti lock brakes, air bags, etc. to help you avoid an accident and keep you safe. Kind of like a safety on a gun. Need I say anymore?

The 2011 Kia Rio had the highest rate of death, with 149 fatalities expected per million registrations. The Nissan Versa sedan had 130 fatalities per million registered and the Hyundai Accent had 120 fatalities per million registered. They were the deadliest cars in the study.
