I HATE washing my car.

OP:
I feel the SAME EXACT WAY AS YOU!!!! I hate washing my cars, all of them. I do not in any way enjoy it whatsoever. Since I have no shade in front of my house at all after 7:30AM until the sun sets, I feel like I'm always racing the water drying on the car to avoid horrible water spots and/or soap stains. Not to mention, every time I dry it, I know I'm adding tiny scratches to the car, and no matter how much I dry it, water always finds its way out of the seams when I'm done. Yes, yes, I've used a leaf blower, but that takes even longer than a microfiber towel.
I also hate waxing my cars as well, because it takes forever, and I always seem to miss spots. Like you, I ONLY do it because I love how it looks when I'm finished.
I've been working 7 days a week typically for about the last 2 years, I really don't want to spend the almost non-existent time I have washing my cars which are just going to get dirty in a few hours...but I do anyway

I am indifferent to the act of cleaning and maintaining my car. But I have OCD when it comes to my cars, that I like them to be perfect, aesthetically and mechanically, so I just have this psychological compulsion to clean and maintain my car to the best of my abilities, but I do not enjoy the process itself, but the end result is satisfying.

I enjoy keeping the car clean. Using quick detail spray or even spray wax is OK. I don't like to hand dry any car and I never have done so to my 07.
If it rains I go to the hand wash bay and wash it with soap and a micro fiber towel then rinse with spot free water and go home. It air dries in the garage then I use detail spray and 2 micro fiber towels.

I absolutely hate washing cars. My 2007 convert is now 8 1/2 years old and has only been washed 3 times total with the last time in July 2011.
I just use a California car duster and detail spray to get off the occasional bug or bird dropping.
When I took this picture by my home here in Tucson it had been over 3 years since the last time it was washed.
This is a photo of the underside that I took at the last oil change. It was the first time I had ever seen the bottom of the car and it has never been cleaned in any way ever.

Once I am actually doing it, I don't mind. But it's tough finding the time while working 50-55 hours a week, riding my motorcycles and attending to 2 homes.
I absolutely loathe waxing.

I do not mind washing. Polishing and waxing can be more tedious. Washing the vette is a breeze compared to my Tahoe. I don't like dirty cars so I try to keep all of them clean. I can spend an entire weekend washing, polishing, waxing, detailing, etc, and other tjan my knees getting tired from squatting when doing wheels or lower panels I don't mind.

I think it really depends on the age. The older I get (now at 61) the more of a PITA it is. I usually end up with a sore back and not wanting to do anything else after its done. What happened to the good ole days when I would wash and wax my car and then go out the same night? There is no substitute for youth.

I enjoy washing the vette. Use to wash the 05 coupe twice a week, and waxing once a month. Don't drive the Z quite as much, so it doesn't get washed quite as often, but still probably once a month or so. I do use a California duster, but still enjoy washing.

A friend of mine took this photo in the spring of 1963 when I was 19 and we had just finished washing our cars and were headed for Porky's drive in restaurant near lake Calhoun in Minneapolis. I'm the second from the left and yes we all sat on our cars back then.

I enjoy washing the Z after every few uses or before meet ups and events. I think having machine silver with comp gray wheels hides dirt a little better than other colors though.

We used to cruise Lake street back and forth between West Lake Porky's and East lake Porky's, it was a blast and there were so many girls all over us when we pulled in with our vettes.
Cool link to Lake Street history and what it was like back in the 50's and 60's cruising there. It was like the movie American Graffiti only we actually lived it.

That's a great picture....looks like Happy Days all over again. Funny though, now there would be forum members saying that both cars needed repainting and a re-chromed bumper from people sitting on the cars...
