I simply pointed out areas in which he, and only he needed to do his homework in order that he would be able to make an informed decision for himself.
It also has nothing to do with being a noob. It has everything to do with common sense.
Asking others what car should I buy?
Which transmission should I get?
Which color is best?
Is $32k a fair price? Without supplying any facts what-so-ever as regards condition is just plain stupid.
No, this has nothing to do with a person being new, and has everything to do with a person raised in a society where personal responsibility has become a lost art.

What you quoted was about helping out a noob to get him to give a thank you.
Might need to adjust your meds.

Your last paragraph is spot on: I always told people reporting to me to make the best decision based on all the facts. When it was the right decision there was applause, when the decision didn't turn out the best we discussed it so the person could make a better decision in the future.
However, my words were always:
MAKE A DECISION!

Jeez, lighten up! The humidity is getting too ya. If you read my answer to him it was laced with sarcasm.

I gave him a "Thanks", he'll be really excited when he wakes up later.
He really likes "Thanks', and bright shiny objects.
It's getting light now, so before the freakin' sun becomes toasty hot, I'm going back to the garage to finish my detailing.
Later...
