Think I am going to order a spare set from Amazon along with the winding bars. Looks doable with the correct tools.
Can get them for $75, and I paid $255. Bullchit. I think the standard operating procedure is to replace both springs and keep the good one to sell to the next sucker, um customer.

The rods across the top of the door drive cables on each end. These have to be loosened/removed;
There is a red headed bolt on the outside of the spring that needs to be loosened WITH A BAR IN PLACE (and the other handy) to unwind the spring;
Each spring rod needs to be removed and the springs replaced;
Install new springs on the rods, reinstall the rods, and rehook the cables;
Using two bars wind the red headed bolt the same number of turns as there are stripes on the spring;
Tighten the bejeezus out of the redheaded bolt.
I think the "winding bars" are just 1/2 in stock, like #4 rebar.
Go slow and watch your fingers!!!

What I did not know was how much to wind them. Mine are Red springs. Guess the color denotes the weight lifting capacity. Some springs are sold with the bars on Amazon.

Morning...... if you find a use for those old parts let us know.......us is the thousands of folks who put on long tube headers and have the same pile of stuff.... me included. I have mine up in the shop attic....where it will stay forever. I always thought if I ever would sell the car it would go to the new owner...... or 50 years from now someone would want to take a 10 GS to Bloomington to get a gold and need all that stuff to make it factory.......
Well we are waiting for the blizzard to hit. They are letting schools out early so everyone can get in their caves. The snack racks will no doubt be empty at the stores..... methinks there is a football game this weekend. Go Chefs..... I think it will be cold.
More on that later....have a safe day Hammers....

Annually spray some silicon lube on the springs, rollers, etc and they will last for years. No need to stock an extra set.

Actually chrome with the less molecular density will increase wind flow over the wheel surfaces and increase overall times........ or since you are the wrapmeister you could do this to easily beat the competition.... The GS Science Guy......

Airflow for a car is also different than for a plane. However if you have ever touched the outside of a stealth plane like the SR71, the coating is rough like sand paper as it reduces drag. So do the dimples in a gold ball, and most land speed cars have a similarly textured coating.
Sharks and Dolphins also while appearing smooth have a significantly rough texture for skin, similar again to sand paper

As to why it's not more prevalent
